Re: State Route 88 - Apache Trail closed

I fear that Fish Creek Hill, on the other hand, may never open. Clearing the road from the landslide is no big deal. But stabilizing the hillside above the roadway so that it doesn't happen again ... that may be a feat of engineering that the budget can't justify for what is essentially nothing mor...

As of last night, the access to Apache Lake from 188 has now been opened. The road beyond the marina remains closed.

Re: State Route 88 - Apache Trail closed

I talked with a hydrologist from SRP and one of my friends with the Forest Service over the weekend and both are saying that the road may not be open for at least a year and could go longer depending on funds for repair. An interactive map on ADOT's home page has the Apache Trail closed at both ends...

Re: 44? Hikers Rescued from Lost Dutchman State Park Overnight

So at some point these people must have left LDSP and crossed the boundary into the wilderness. Shouldn't the 15 person limit come into play somewhere? Looks the priority of that rule is very low. The FS personnel at the entrance to the park don't seem to care about the group size limitations, afte...

Re: 44? Hikers Rescued from Lost Dutchman State Park Overnight

I drove out to the LDSP to talk with the source but that was a waste of time as she said she couldn't release any details... "Watch it on the news".

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Attached is a photo of a Pyrocumulus cloud over the main fire area on 06-17-19. This type of cloud, although beautiful, is not what we want to see when talking about a wildfire.

@JosephElfelt
Thanks Joseph, your map has been very helpful at determining where the major portions of the fire are. Keep up the good work.

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Thanks to "FlightRadar24" I was able to track this aircraft (N985AB) flying over the Superstition Mountain Wilderness Area. The complimentary version of this app will only allow thirty minutes then it times out and shuts down. I restarted the app several times following the aircraft as it circled ar...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

I drove out on Apache Trail at 04:30 this morning (Saturday) and the trail has a manned road block at Needle Vista. First Water Road is CLOSED, I think they have an action center at the horse trailer parking lot. The visible smoke in the mountains has been reduced greatly but there's a lot more to t...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Just read a posting on Facebook that the Apache Trail has been shut down from the area where blacktop changes to gravel transition on North. The fire should jump the road sometime tonight.

I had a Samsung for several years and was quite satisfied with it... Then I bought the Pixel 2 XL and wondered what happened to the rest of the cell phone world. I'm not a fan of cell phone cameras but this one has some truly unique features... In short, I love it.

Louie, at the Bluebird on Apache Trail, said Thursday night he logged 2 inches of rain. First Water Road is etched with erosion ditches and the washes were carrying good amounts of water... enough to temporarily close Lost Dutchman Blvd @ Goldfield Road. MORE, we want more.

Okwhat is this cave of which you speak???? Sounds quite interesting! Here's a link to Tom Kollenborn's story about the "Cave of a Thousand Eyes". Many have searched for the entrance to the cave in recent years, but if they have located it, they're keeping it a secret. http://superstitionmountaintom...

I am interested in doing the traverse North to South from Canyon Lake the Peralta Trailhead.
Sorry Stupawx, I'm recovering from knee surgery and don't fit into my truck so good yet. Good luck, that's a nice trip through the Superstitions.
