Re: Five Favorite Phoenix Area Hikes

My five best in the Valley (no particular order) are Superstition Ridgeline, Tom's Thumb-Windgate-East End loop, Battleship, Skull Mesa to ruins, Pyramid-National-Goat Hill-Bursera loop, and Perl Charles-Piestewa summit and circumference loop. Hopefully I have some free time to start hiking again so...

Re: Camping Near Pinal Peak

I stayed at Pioneer Pass many years ago, nice spot and should offer some afternoon shade. No fee, first come first serve, a couple vault toilets for those that need them. I seem to remember a few good sites to fit a few families. There are a couple good day hiking options basically right out of the ...

Re: What do you do for a living??

I am still working at the same nursery that I have been with since 2001, but I did change jobs last year. I traded in the white collar shirt of my former sales position to put on a western-esque shirt (from Savers) and be the head propagator for our nursery. Nothing quite as great as taking a pay cu...

Re: Tent pole repair

This is an amazingly timely post. I have a Quarter Dome 1 that I got from REI less than 2 years ago, and when I put the tent up on the first night of my 5 day Grand Canyon trip a few weeks ago I found the shock cord was shot. I could still make it work, but a pain in the behind to say the least. Ama...

Re: Trying to get rolling on HAZ again

Welcome back! I am also trying to get back in the habit of posting, I took off most of last year myself. I have changed jobs (same company) and that has certainly affected my hiking time, well that and my kids getting older...quality was always better than quantity anyway.

@Tough_Boots
I have to chuckle a bit every time I see one of the new 'Prius Sport' models driving around. Isn't that a contradiction in itself?

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

I got a solid half inch at my house in North Phoenix, first real rain since august for me. Gotta take what we can get. No more precipitation on the 10 day forecast though, sure hope this isn't it...

Re: 2018 Hazolutions

I need to get back to actually logging trip reports again. I got a new position at my company back in May, and I spend very little time in front of my desktop at work nowadays (a good thing, now I am growing plants instead of selling them). As a result, I have not been putting in triplogs since then...

Re: Ideas needed for glamping trip

@chumley I would second Chumley's comment. I picked up one of the seats that snaps onto a 5 gallon bucket and use it with bags for my wife and kids. My little one gets stage fright with some bathroom situations and she is good to go with this one. You can always pack an extra tarp and some rope to ...

Re: C.C. Cragin (Blue Ridge) will be closed starting Sept. 6

This is a short term bummer. I did a kayak camp trip up there at the end of June that was fantastic, and I had been thinking about taking another trip up in a few weeks. Hopefully the improved boat launch doesn't make the resovoir even busier...

South Mountain: Pima Canyon TH

Howdy all, I got in a hike today starting from the Pima Canyon TH, and they had signs up about it being closed for a remodel. They are having it closed from August 7th until the end of fall for improvements. Certainly many other trailheads that could be used, but I know this one is popular. Pima Can...

I am usually a next day guy for unloading after a backpack trip. Your checklist leaves off the celebratory cerveza though... :M2C:
