Re: STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

@rcorfman I wish there was a way to add my photo that shows my XTherm & Sleeping bag on top of the slider board of my Total Gym at a 30º angle. The XTherm & air mattress stay put thanks to small sections of Shelf liner between the gear & slider board. The shelf liner weighs 4oz. I actually have som...

Re: STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

@azbackpackr
Always, Always, Always More often than not, the ground is slightly sloped & I find myself in the middle of the night having slipped off my inflated air mattress again.....same as most everyone, I think.

Re: STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

@BubbaJuice I suspect there are numerous others waiting for their order of Shelf Liner to arrive B4 they reply/comment. It's an unbelievably easy/inexpensive way to fix a problem we all experience most every time we put a sleeping bag on top of an inflatable air mattress. Please come back & say som...

STOP Sliding OFF your Inflated Air Mattress

I'm a side sleeper & turn from side to side all night long. My Sleeping bag is a Western Mountaineering Antelope with Gore Windstopper outer fabric. XTherm is my inflatable air mattress at this time. Historically no matter which sleeping bag I have or what inflatable air mattress I've had, I seem to...

@xsproutx
I have 3 pouches of those Biscuits & Gravey, but haven't opened them yet. Thanks for the suggestion to break up the biscuits just B4 re-hydrating.

Re: REI Mountain House Fail

I should have mentioned in my prior reply about Peak Refuel Freeze-Dried Meals . Besides the fact that: 1. there are no TVP or other fillers, 2. There are more grams of Protein per pouch than other brands. 2. Much less water is required to re-hydrate their meals than Mountain House or any other bran...

Re: REI Mountain House Fail

Peak Refuel is now my Freeze-Dried meal preference for several reasons. They have more calories & more grams of Protein per $$ for each pouch than any other meals I've looked at when comparing Food to cost. I personally prefer the taste/flavor of Peak Refuel meals to others, however, my taste buds ...

Re: Tent pole repair

@tibber REI has no plastic clips to sell you if any break. REI refers you to "go online". I owned the Quarter Dome SL! briefly. I didn't like the really thin material used for the tent floor. The footprint was also a lame product. I sold my tent on eBay after 3-4 nights in the tent & replaced it in...

Re: Hiker Stabs Mountain Biker in Right-of-Way Altercation

@Pivo Throw a handful of dirt in the face or some pepper spray in front of a speeding, oncoming biker. You can't miss & should effectively blind the biker. I'm going to have to keep this in mind as the preferred way to deal with speeding & or overly aggressive bikers. The biker won't have any descr...

Re: Hiker Stabs Mountain Biker in Right-of-Way Altercation

@Alston_Neal At least the stabber turned himself in. He, at least, has witnesses that most likely will support his side of the altercation & what led up to it. Since the stabber has been charged, he'll have to defend himself in court. I wonder IF the victim will agree to testify against the stabber...

Re: Hiker Stabs Mountain Biker in Right-of-Way Altercation

@Pivo A lot of luck would have to be with the hiker who tries to accurately push a stick into the spokes of a wheel moving in the opposite direction of the hiker. It would be easy peasy to stick out a hand/arm to come in contact with the handlebar of the passing biker to force the front wheel to tu...

NO! Besides, trying to stab someone going past on a bike would definitely have to be pre-meditated.

Re: Hiker Stabs Mountain Biker in Right-of-Way Altercation

@Pivo Generally, unless otherwise stated, hikers have the right of way vs bikers . Proper trail etiquette between hikers is to allow the hiker moving uphill to have the right of way. As a practical matter, I yield to bikers because they are heavier & moving faster than me. I'd be the one most damag...

Re: Meal Pouches

I like Freeze Dried Meals that you can buy that come in those foil pouches, however, I've Discovered there is too much food in a pouch for MEeee to consume at one time. Peak Refuel is my preferred brand. I open the pouches at home, weigh out 2 equal portions & put them in 1QT Freezer bags. When I'm ...

Re: Snake Gaiters -worth it?

In addition to my Turtleskin gaiters that I wear when bushwhacking, I wear a pair of Dirty Girl gaiters over my boots when I'm going to be hiking on trails. 10 days ago I bought a pair of Kahtoola LevaGaiters (Gore-Tex) Tall that I wear when I go hiking in snow. They are lightweight (5.2oz) for the ...

Re: Snake Gaiters -worth it?

I have & wear a pair of Turtleskin gaiters in warm weather in the middle of summer when I know I'm going to be bushwhacking for geocaches. Yes, my legs feel like they're in a sauna & my pant leg is usually soaking wet, however, I prefer the protection to discomfort & possible snake bite on my lower ...

Re: GPS Watch or Lightweight Handheld Recommendations

@AZOutdoorsman This is a lil off-topic, however, I think it's worth mentioning that I carry a Personal Locator Beacon, the ACR ResQLink 409 just in case get in trouble & am unable to crawl back to the trailhead. It does one thing & only one thing; send a STRONG 5-watt signal to an overhead satellit...
