Plantar Plate Tear (foot)

Hey Everyone. I've been sidelined for 17 weeks now with a plantar plate tear. First MRI found nothing (Radiology Limited in Tucson). Second MRI showed a lot more (Banner)--specifically a "high grade partial thickness plantar plate tear." So, first of all, Radiology Limited is indeed "limited" in ter...

Re: Coronavirus and hiking

Seems like this topic has meandered in a few directions. So I wanted to add this to the mix: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/07/us/coronavirus-wilderness-search-rescue.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage If you don't have access to the NYTimes, in short, volunteer emergency respon...

Re: Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

@nonot
My bad about GET. I was looking at Google Maps and they have the GET going through there. Guessing that was outdated.

Re: Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

@CannondaleKid @augustwest @sredfield @nonot @trekkin_gecko The Subaru made it past the fence at the well/ranch-gate. I drove up to the top of the hill where the next cattleguard is just before dropping down for the last leg to the TH. Looking down frm that hill I made the executive decision to NOT...

Re: Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

@AugustWest
I'm guessing the ranch gate and artesian well will become familiar terms as soon as I get there.

Thank you.

Re: Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

@Sredfield
Thanks for replying. I don't know where the artesian well is. Is that before the intersection of white canyon and GET? Trying to find somewhere to car camp before going into White Canyon.

Battle Axe Road to White Canyon

Hi. I've had to rework plans on account of the rain tomorrow (I know, hard to believe). I did a search in the forums but couldn't find any recent info. I'm hoping to drive into White Canyon via Battle Axe Road in my Subaru Forester. Has anyone been down there recently? The BLM ranger mentioned it sh...

@nonot
Just saw this. Thanks for updating that info and for the explanation of terms.

I have had Blue Ridge on my radar for a while. I just have to do it when I have more time. For that matter, maybe one day I'll just do the GET.

Re: Re: Three-Day Sonoran Desert Backpack

@chumley
It's been a rough 12 months for the Sonoran Desert.

I may have to extend my scope a little bit. I'm thinking of car camping at the edge of Fish Hooks and doing some day hikes. Couldn't find much on HikeAZ. So, I'll post my findings. And if anyone knows of anything, please let me know.

Re: Re: Three-Day Sonoran Desert Backpack

@nonot Are you thinking of the Blue Range Primitive Area? I have been meaning to get up there. But since I only have three days, that may be more driving than I can do now. Or is there something called Blue Ridge that I should know about? Also, what is FOTG? Thanks for weighing in. I appreciate it.

Re: Re: Three-Day Sonoran Desert Backpack

@andrewp Hi Andrew. Thank you for your response. I have been in Aravaipa twice in the past 7 months. And I was in Redfield once a few months ago. It was outstanding. I really want to go back into Redfield, but both approach roads are a disaster for my Subaru Forester. Waiting to get another vehicle...

Re: Three-Day Sonoran Desert Backpack

Hi. I know I'm asking a very broad question that stands to make some people want to hide their most coveted places. But I feel I contribute to this community and have a deep respect for the outdoors. So, hoping someone can either answer here or PM me with some suggestions. I live in Tucson and I am ...

Re: Snake Gaiters -worth it?

I have worn a pair of Everlast kevlar gaiters for years. My first pair became completely shredded (not from snake bites, thankfully) so about a year ago I looked for them again only to discover that they weren't sold anymore. So I called the company and they had one pair left and sold them to me. I ...

4WD Recommendations

Hi. I am opening up a can of worms here, but wanted to get people's thoughts and see what comes up. I currently have a Subaru Forester and I like the MPG's and the SUV style. But it's not providing me much assurance when I get back onto some of those gnarly roads out there. The clearance is ok, but ...

FYI; water all over the place. It dried up in a few spots, but no problems whatsoever all along Pinto and Spencer.

Re: Water On West Pinto #212 Near Oak Flat

@friendofThundergod
I was back there in 2018 and there were little pockets up the canyons. But given the past year... it's good to hear something solid.

Just so I am sure, you mean 1.3 miles in from Miles Ranch, right?

As usual, thank you.

Water On West Pinto #212 Near Oak Flat

Does anyone know about water on West PInto near Oak Flat? Anything near Jerky Spring, Oak Flat Spring, etc.? Hoping to basecamp somewhere in there.

Many thanks.

Re: FR 294 Redfield Canyon

Lastly, I'm just trying to figure out what you and @RedRoxx44 are referring to regarding the difficulty of getting up and past Swamp Canyon. Does it require climbing and/or technical gear? Or can I do it with a 40 pound pack, alone and without gear? (And without incurring unnecessary physical damage...

@RedRoxx44
Thanks. That's helpful.

When you say "rough boulder chokes," is it just a question of muscling through or is it class 5 with danger of breaking my butt?
