Re: Miller Creek/Rincon Peak TH access

@jrousoshammond
I went there about 11 months ago and rode in a friend's Forester and we had no problems...there had been a good bit of rain prior to our trip, and there were a few water crossings, but it was not a big deal

@jajohnson11
I have been on #1, #2, and #4, but I have never been on #3...the crux of it seems to be going from #3 to #2...personally, I don't think that I would want to try the reverse z...but I am sure that others on here could give you some advice...good luck!

@DixieFlyer
I got it to work this time. I used a rolling pin on it, and squeegeed the heck out of it.

Note to self: next time get a white one, not a black one, to put on a tinted window

Junk science is creating distrust in experts and real scientific data.
It is not junk science. It is not even bad education. Instead it is an indoctrination. Science has become a religion -- for those who do not know science.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

My rain gauge has recorded 3.9" of rain so far today. That is quite a bit when you consider that the average annual rainfall is around 9".

Mine doesn't look worth a crap. The letters pulled apart when I pulled the backing off. If you want to throw money away, it looks to me like buying one of these decals is a good way to do it.

Re: Not backpacking Columbus Day wknd

@chumley Let's say that 10 people from HAZ decide to go on a R2R hike. It looks to me like they wouldn't need any sort of special permit, since the group size is less than 12 people. Am I missing something? Organized Non-Commercial Groups are defined as any group traveling together, such as scouts,...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

I drove back to Phoenix yesterday from Flag, and ran into the heaviest rain that I have ever seen between Sedona and 260. I was driving 25 mph on I-17 and could barely see. There was also a fantastic lightning storm -- I wish that I had taken pics of it.

Re: Hiking vehicles

@LindaAnn I was just joking...there is quite a bit of difference between a 4Runner and a RAV4 speaking of colors, I saw one of these at a Toyota dealer today: https://www.google.com/search?q=army+green+2020+tacoma&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=BSwueRfvFFwp5M%253A%252CcvpjsYIJgEsSCM%252C_&vet=1&usg=...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@DixieFlyer I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting a new 4Runner soon. But I am extremely bitter at the moment that the Tacomas have the ‘cement’ paint color available right now, but the 4Runners do not. I saw a cement colored RAV4 today. If you want a cement SUV, a good solution would be...

Re: Non-potable water availability in GCNP

@SunDevil3 I can't see why you'd need to filter water on the route that you are taking. You are going downhill on the SK trail and you can easily carry all the water that you need to take you down to Phantom Ranch. You can get water at the BA campground which will easily take you to Indian Garden. ...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@DixieFlyer That said, regardless of what you get, I would recommend upgrading the tires (if the ones it comes with are too wimpy) to handle the tougher road situations you will inevitably lured into. :D That is definitely a good point. A Tacoma or 4Runner with the TRD package seems to come with so...

Re: Hiking vehicles

@DixieFlyer What kind of mpg are you hoping for? I’ve owned a lot of vehicles, and without a doubt, my 4Runner is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. The next vehicle I buy will be another 4Runner. If most of my driving is in town, I get about 20mpg. If most of my driving is highway, I get about 23mp...

So at some point these people must have left LDSP and crossed the boundary into the wilderness. Shouldn't the 15 person limit come into play somewhere? Looks the priority of that rule is very low.
If they went all the way to Siphon Draw they would definitely be in the Superstition Wilderness

Re: Hiking vehicles

Is there anyone here who is happy with the offroad performance of an AWD SUV like a Forester or RAV4? I am likely going to buy something that will take me to more hiking trails than my 2WD F-150. Something like a Tacoma or 4Runner looks good, but I like the gas mileage of an AWD vehicle, especially ...
