Re: 19 year old Washington woman found dead in Saguaro NP

Yikes. I was just there over Labor Day weekend. I'll be very interested to see what they can find out. Edit: There's now an obituary that states that she fell from a waterfall. I haven't seen this information reported elsewhere. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/peninsuladailynews/name/alissa-lof...

Re: Rincons and Weather

@nonot

Those are great points.

I don't mind getting a little wet or having to hunker down for a short amount of time. I guess my big question is how gnarly can a monsoon get up around 6,000'-8,000'?

Rincons and Weather

I have a Labor Day trip planned for Saguaro East and am looking for some input with regard to the forecast. I know we're not all meteorologists, but I don't have any experience with the range and monsoon weather. I might as well ask the questions now rather than Friday night! I'll be monitoring thro...

Re: Mindless chit chat

Now that we're actually getting somewhat regular precipitation, where does everyone find reliable forecast info for planning trips during Monsoon season? Also, I'm I correct in assuming that I should stay out of West Clear Creek if there's even a slight chance of rain in the area or upstream? Or am ...

Re: 2021 Fire Restrictions

This is only my 3rd summer out here, and I can't recall the last two having this many closures this early on.

Where does everyone typically look to backpack when this sort of thing happens? Is out of state or (literally) greener pastures the only real option?

Re: Foot gear survey - What are your favorite's?

I'll preface this by saying that I lived in Western NC for 10 years before making the jump to AZ. My Chacos get a lot of comments out here, something that never happened on the east coast. What is your favorite foot gear under the following conditions? 1. Short, or easy terrain hikes - The aforement...

Re: Mindless chit chat

Weather statistics are often compared to "normal" values (was this year warmer than "normal"?) and those values are based on the averages over the last 30-year period. That 30-year period resets every decade, and since 2021 starts a new decade, the new "normal" values calculated based on readings f...

August is the height of the monsoon
lol height of monsoon season. Is that that thing with rain we used to have?
Moved here two years ago and am still waiting for some strong storms.

Still great advice to keep in mind though.

Moab Suggestions

I've had a last minute trip to Moab come up at the end of the month. I'm still new to this part of the country and have not had the chance to hike that area yet so I am looking for some pointers. I will be in town Fri-Sun and am looking for day hikes in Arches, Canyonlands or on BLM land. I can comf...

@desertadapted

Nice! I will have to head that direction the next time that I'm out there.

Are there any reliable maps that show the extent of last year's fires?

Re: Advice on 2-night backpacking trip in the Superstitions?

@desertadapted Bluff Springs to Charlebois is one of my favorite hiking areas in the supes. Haven't been there since the fires. I know you took the left on the Terrapin, but do you happen to know the impact of the fire if you continued east on the Bluff Springs trail, is that whole canyon burned as...
