Re: Mountainsmith Day Lumbar pack review

Looks like it may be a great option for some folks. For my use I go with either: 1. CamelBak Repack LR 4 50 oz Hydration Pack (a fanny pack without over-the-shoulder straps) 2. Gregory Zulu 30 full-size day-pack, which has enough cushioning around the waist so it can easily be adjusted to vary the a...

Re: Home owner yelling at hiker on Hawes Trail Loop Mesa AZ

@RedRoxx44
On one of the biking forums I saw a thread about this and a biker who obviously had just seen the thread for the first time said "Cool! I'm going out for a ride right now and I'll troll for the guy... and I will every time I ride that trail"

Re: Home owner yelling at hiker on Hawes Trail Loop Mesa AZ

Is there some special attraction to hike this stretch of trail? I wouldn't necessarily characterize it as anything special... it's just a trail in the Hawes Trail System. Hiking: Since it is adjacent to the Las Sendas gated community I believe it is used mostly by folks who live in Las Sendas. Moun...

Re: Home owner yelling at hiker on Hawes Trail Loop Mesa AZ

@chumley Disclaimer... I didn't see this on any news channel so I can't speak to that. But no matter, I'm sure we all know there is always FAR more to any TV news story than can be explained in the time alloted. Besides, they don't want to spill too much anyway, thus the 'stay tuned for more on our...

Home owner yelling at hiker on Hawes Trail Loop Mesa AZ

Just Google "Home owner yelling at hiker on Hawes Trail Loop Mesa AZ" and the first link should get you to the YouTube video. This isn't just a single incident... this guy has been doing this since at least mid-2016. It appears he has called the police numerous times, so by now they probably just tr...

I hear ya Randy, it isn't often I do either... but the dust storm of a few days ago left such a thick coating of dust on them it was more efficient to wash the whole vehicle than just the windows.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

@rwstorm I don't know about chumley, but I washed the 4Runner and Tracey's Fit yesterday and it worked out great! We got .43" early am (our garden is happy for that) and thanks to NO dust-storm ahead of the rain, both are as shiny and clean as immediately after washing. We'll take that as a win-win...

Re: Printing Arizona Trail topo maps

@wyattroer
I don't know what FedEx/Kinko's/etc. would charge IF they would even print the full set, but I'm guessing the cost would be comparable, if not more than the best option, directly from AZT:
PRINTED Map set - $45

@The_Eagle Yup, pledge $50 and you get buff & stickers, but it still doesn't get you on the pre-order list... :doh: Crowd-funding can be great, but if this was such a great idea surely wouldn't a venture capitalist have gotten involved? Especially... With years of experience building product at Tes...

Re: delorme inreach

Just wondering... does anyone make sure their spouse who stays home gets their own device? If your spouse has the need to know where you are at all times, shouldn't turnabout be fair play? After all, if they don't sit in the house all day waiting for your return, they are probably out and about, sha...

This site says the Anchas or at least part are closed. I guess I would trust the Tonto NF website more though. https://firerestrictions.us/az/az-usfs/tonto-nf--pleasant-valley-district/ Note: The AREA shown on the map at the above link is just the part of Tonto administrated by the Pleasant Valley ...

Re: Best Rim For Full Moon Hike

@SpiderLegs In July 2008 my one-and-only Grand Canyon hike was a fabulous full moon hike on the South Kaibab trail. However, since I haven't even hiked any other GC trails,full-moon for not, I can't say if it would be better or worse than other hikes. Tim (davis2001r6) put this event together and h...

Re: Tonto Forest Fire Restrictions--Vehicular Traffic

@TannerF Yes, for Devils Chasm you are correct. In reference to: cliff dwellings in the Tonto Area I took that to mean Tonto National Monument. If you meant in the Tonto National Forest , that covers a HUGE area. Upon your mention of Devils Chasm, that would dwellings in the Sierra Ancha/Cherry Cree...

Re: Tonto Forest Fire Restrictions--Vehicular Traffic

@ddgrunning I believe the reference to 'spark-arresting' devices came about due mainly to ATV's & dirt-bikes, many of which had practically nothing for a muffler, and thus the possibility for sparks to exit the exhaust system. When it comes to road-legal cars & trucks of today, it's really NOT an i...

Re: Changing Hands & AZW Brewing present Craig Childs - May 15th

Why do people ask for/cherish autographed items? My top two votes would be: 1. Bragging-rights 2. Another excuse for hoarding Due to the smart phone boom I believe written autographs will soon be a thing of the past, replaced by the ubiquitous autograph-by-selfie , which IMO, are simply about raisin...
