Re: FR 287 - Haunted Canyon

@Hikertrasharizona
If you pay a little extra attention to the signs as you drive through the Pinto Mine complex you'll be fine.

Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

@ddgrunning
As jonathanpatt said, there are no issues getting to Rogers Trough from the west using FR 172.
If one wishes to drive to the TH on FR 650, just turn in off the US 60 across from Picketpost.

Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

@cw50must Since he posted the comment on your Montana Mountain Loop video, he must mean Hewitt Station Road has a 'new' gate. It has been closed for some time due to the dust raised by all the ATV/4x4 traffic. FYI, there is a large sign at the 'ATV Staging' parking lot across from Picketpost which ...

Re: Shuttling vehicle from Tule TH to Reavis TH

@stevebo Here's a possibility... Yes, it will require two non-hiking drivers and a spare set of keys, but IMO it appears the simplest solution. SCENARIO: - Cars #1 & #2, along with the hikers drive up to Tule TH - Drop off the hikers, one of whom must have spare keys for car #1. - Drive cars #1 & #...

The straps are a tasty salt-lick for small critters... which is why I always kept mine inside my tent as my hands sweat quite a bit.

Re: 2018 Water Reports Border to Picket Post

@Klaus If you have not already done so, I'd recommend checking out the information under the ' Trail Resources ' tab on the official Arizona Trail website. Under Trail Resources the Water Sources link always has the latest pdf listing water sources and last reported conditions: Arizona Trail Water ...

Re: Pueblo Cyn Ruins (Recent Landslide Restricts Hike Access?)

I'd still like to know if it's possible to reach the ruins from above. In the case of Pueblo, I'd say the easy answer is no, at least not from above. {Edit: Unless you are an experienced climber with the appropriate gear} However, on more than one occasion I've thought about a more direct approach....

@Alston_Neal
And for those who like to spout how 'green' their Prius is... the carbon foot-print to manufacture the batteries outweighs the higher mpg.
Tracey will stick with her '07 Fit and its 35 mpg in town and 40 @70-75 mph.

Re: HAZ Window Decal: Whose looks best? (-:

Surprisingly enough, lately I've encountered a few Prius' going over the posted limit, one actually passing me on a long uphill on the Beeline. :o
Maybe the beginning of a Prius revolution?

P.S. For the grammar aficionados, would Prii be more accurate for plural of Prius?

Re: Cerro Rd Off of 60 Near Top of the World

@pixelfrog Another cool road in that area is FR 229 (Silver King Road) which heads north from US 60 across from the Superior airport. If you look close at the FS Topo map you will see when FR 8 goes east from Happy Camp Road at the FR 650 intersection and connects with FR 229 just north of the Perl...

Re: Cerro Rd Off of 60 Near Top of the World

@pixelfrog (PM sent) To go all the way through safely will require a 4x4, preferably one with high-clearance and at least a rear locker. It is one rough and nasty road. I've driven it a half dozen times over the last 4-5 years and while some areas are easy, others can be quite challenging, especial...

Re: Bear bagging

The only thing that was eaten by some animal were the thick nylon straps of my trekking poles! I never leave my hiking poles out overnight for that simple reason. They are either inside my tent with me or in the car when car camping. And for those times I might forget, I the possibility by thorough...
