Re: COVID Ruined our Plans - Need helping finding an out-of-state "Cabin Loop"

@hikeaz So if you live in NM and go camping in Greenlee County AZ (where there are a grand total of 18 cases) you'd have to quarantine for 14 days when you come back...makes a lot of sense https://kfoxtv.com/news/local/quarantine-required-new-mexico-travel-restrictions-in-effect Just think.... it t...

Re: COVID Ruined our Plans - Need helping finding an out-of-state "Cabin Loop"

@hikeaz If you live in Red Hill, Quemado, Pie Town, or Reserve, New Mexico, you grocery shop in Springerville. Your doctor is probably in Springerville, your dentist, your chiropractor, mechanic, hairdresser, barber, etc. I seriously doubt there is any problem crossing back and forth on US 60 or 18...

Re: COVID Ruined our Plans - Need helping finding an out-of-state "Cabin Loop"

@johnny88 thanks for letting me know -- I was planning to go to CO in a couple of weeks...I think that AZ should reciprocate for residents of NM I was in Springerville Safeway Thursday, 7/2 - there were at least 10-15 N.M. tagged trucks in the lot. So...... if a NM resident visits (the terrible inf...

Re: AZ National Forest Closures

Maybe it's my old-school arithmetic, but taking the same amount of people, and reducing the space that they have available to occupy would seem to INCREASE the density and count of folks in the available space. I don't think "same amount of people" is a given. There is a part of the population that...

Re: AZ National Forest Closures

@hikeaz They are mainly doing it because they aren't opening the Restrooms and they don't want people in there overnight without them. I talked to Prescott NF today and they are looking to hire private contractors to do the cleaning. Give the government of the most powerful country three months and...

chumley wrote: Jun 29 2020 3:41 pm @Sredfield I’ve heard this from several different sources for more than two weeks now. (Notably not from the forest itself).

If it’s what they determine to be the best course of action, they should have just done it two weeks ago. IMO

North Rim opening for day-use....

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon will reopen Tuesday (6/30) for day use, national parks officials announced. The gate will be opened at 6 a.m. and services will be limited on the Kaibab Plateau as the Mangum Fire continues to burn but has reached 63% containment. The blaze has eaten through more th...

Re: COVID Ruined our Plans - Need helping finding an out-of-state "Cabin Loop"

Yeah... the limited elevation gain is the big limiter in summer in those states. Might press the 'one day drive', but maybe a section(s) of the Tahoe Rim? One of my favorites > Echo Lakes to Barker Pass - 32.7 miles. https://hikearizona.com/map.php?X=51 https://tahoerimtrail.org/wp-content/uploads/2...

Re: Cabin Loop Trail

As mentioned, the General Crook Trail is kind of a slog and using it with H.B and Barbershop to get over near FR321C (former car/RV-camp area) would be an ambitious first day for most Scout groups. The three 'do not miss' trails, for me are Barbershop, U-Bar and Houston Bros - I would try and spend ...

SR87 - FR 300 is worse Agreed! I drove this segment last week and have never seen it as bad as it is right now. But @kingsnake just commented on his triplog that FR300 is in the best shape he's ever seen it from a trip last Thursday. https://hikearizona.com/photoset.php?ID=58802&start=0 I was wonde...

Hiked Pinchot to Dane Sp.(CCW Houston Bros./Barbershop/U-Bar) yesterday. Gobs of water everywhere. Plenty of nice camps along the Barbershop and or Houston Bros. The 'big car-camping area' seems to have been successfully restricted - no misbehaved RV conventions! The meadow looks GREAT! While it IS ...
