Re: tripods. Don't they still make a hiking stick with a camera attachment in the top? Or a unipod? yes - some hiking poles have a 1/4-20 mounting nut underneath the handle, and you can also buy monopods like tripods. Or for P&S you can get the flexible 'gorilla-pod' which can bend an fix to any su...

Re: Introductory level DSLRs

the S90 is the same sensor and processor as the G11, and with a 'faster' lens... and both have improved ISO noise performance... I'm drooling over the S90 as a replacement for my sennsor-goobered G9 which is always on my daypack.

Re: Introductory level DSLRs

check out the info (lots to read) http://www.dpreview.com/ http://www.steves-digicams.com/ kits lenses generally stink, so as quick as you can upgrade the lens ("glass") the better. Prime lenses rock, but it's tough to beat the functionality of the zoom (especially when you are on some precipice and...

reflecting pool in Sedona

Hi all you experts, looking for directions to this spot overlooking Cathedral Rocks: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24218095@N08/2294247500/ looks northwest-ish and fairly high above Oak Creek. I'm thinking that it might be just off Red Rock Loop before it drops into the valley south of the high-schoo...

Re: Havasu Falls - Twin Flow Predictions

I think the twin flow will be more of a matter of total water. I looked at the top of the falls and given enough flow, not flood-stage, it would have to go over the old path. take a look at the comparison shot in my trip report

Re: Nalgene BPA-free

I pulled my 100oz camelbak bladder out for the Havasupai trip, plus one "sams flavored water" bottle to use to mix my drink powders in. Along the trail I sucked a nice mouthful of Johnson Utilities finest from the bladder and BAH! :o it tasted like fabric softener sheets!! - seems that I had placed ...

Re: Photographing Ringtails?

I've had a ringtail encounter nearly every time I've camped at Phantom Ranch. Also, Fossil Springs right near the dam, we had one exploring our entire camp, and sniff into the packs. http://www.hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=62052 for photos, also remember to use manual focus and estimate the dista...

Havasupai Dayhike

I have the week before July4th (forced) off of work and I'm thinking of doing a 'dayhike' in and out to document the damage and repairs to the area. My plan is to drive up Fri evening (6/26), nap at Hilltop, hike in early Sat morn (dark) and take shots of all of the falls then hike out Sat night, ma...

Re: March '09 Catclaw Revenge Cleanup Tortilla Pass-Angel Basin

These passes retail @ $80.00 - $80. divided by 500 is about $16 cents per hour.
- that's about like PRISON wages!

I wonder if anyone should really be drinking anything out of Rogers Canyon watershed - unless you like to whinny!
