I was around 16 when I had my first run in with a Javelina. I lived in Blue Hills, near Dewey, when one day my girlfriend and I were walking back home from a hike in the foothills of the Bradshaw. Movement caught my eyes and it was a single Javelina crashing over rocks and grass toward us! One can o...

How to punish the criminal and the idiot? Frankly, I haven't really give the subject much thought. The law is in place, those who started the fire will be investigated, and once tried and convicted, punishment will be giving. I would think many, perhaps 1/2, of the home owners will have insurance an...

A few years back up on the Woodchute Trail, kicking back among the rocks overlooking the Verde Valley, I found an umbrella nearby. Frankly, I was shocked; never seen anyone on a trail with an umbrella, much less leaving this one. It was in good shape, clearly not in the elements long, so I took it h...

I bring myself up to speed with ABC World News in the morning (3:00).
My favorite for local coverage is FOX 10 when I get a chance to sit and watch it. And overall NPR having access to both KNAU and KJZZ.

What trail will you first plan to hike.

With the news of moisture possibly moving in and the monsoon season just coming around the corner; I am going to be upbeat here on the subject. I have cabin-fever knowing I am stuck in the rut of a daily ritual and I cannot hike in the hills. But! I am a daydreamer! And this helps, because it always...

Thanks for sharing the article Mike. I first heard about this fire several weeks ago on PBS.
40% chance of rain? I have not been keeping an ear on the weather reports and this is the first I've heard this great news. However, I must share I am concerned about lightning.

Yep, smoke from a fire is one thing, especially when I seen the smoke from the Indian Fire south of Prescott. I was afraid. Nonetheless, on a lighter note, today on the way home I thought I spotted tall tell signs of a storm cloud to the east over the Mingus. But alas when I broke out into the open ...

Although, I am the newby, I am impressed with the site. It is a shame to find it about the time the NF are closing. But I can wait; it always rains after a dry spell, and during the lull in hiking I can review all the trails on this site. And enjoy the Forum.

I've been waiting for the monsoon to come. In the mean time I have been just working and running as often as I can.
