Re: Monsoon chatter

Not sure what is going on in Safford right now, the sky is angry and the ground is wet! I'm wondering if this is what they call a "monsoon storm"? :o

Re: Wild berry report

I enjoyed many berries along Ash Creek on Mt Graham last week and all of the bear poop in the area was berry pink!

Re: Nice hike on Mt Grahm this weekend??

Any recommendations for a loop hike thats not to terribly difficult My recommendation would be Grant Hill Loop http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=605 Mt. Graham rainfall this year is well below average and most of the creeks are very low. Best bet for a good running stream would be the Ash Cree...

Re: Monsoon chatter

Down here in Saffordville, we got our first real measurable monsoon rain last night. Right now my porch meter is reading 42% humidity and it is hot & sticky. On the + side, the humidity has made several of my spiny star cactus' bloom and they are purdy!

Re: unidentified insect

I see these every year out at Roper Lake SP in the mesquite trees. A few years back they were in clumps on the branches, I don't think I've seen any this year yet.

Re: Monsoon chatter

I heard cicadas on most of my hike today and also, some of the desert sage bushes in my yard bloomed today which they usually do just before the rains come.

Re: "Wallow Fire" in Bear Wallow Wilderness

Some of us love that country beyond reason. I guess I will drive up to see what happened to it, as soon as the roads are open again. I relate it kind of like going to the funeral home to see your loved one in an open casket... Every time I drive 89 to or from anywhere, all I do is stare at the Schu...

Re: Coronado National Forest CLOSED 6/9/11!

I don't know who to believe now, ADOT says the Swift Trail up Graham has been closed, but the FS just told me that it is NOT closed until 6/9/11 and should have never been put on the web as closed. I'm heading up tomorrow to get one more hike in or, I'll be turned away at the base by ADOT?

Wildfire danger leads to closure of road to Mt. Graham
Well, there goes my weekend plans on Graham, but I am totally OK with this decision. The mountain is bone dry and the creeks are as low as I've ever seen them in 10 years.

Re: "Wallow Fire" in Bear Wallow Wilderness

This whole fire is just making me sick! Every year I spent 1-2 weeks at my grandparent's summer home in Springerville and was set to go up in a couple of weeks. Now my family is just praying that it won't spread down to Strayhorse and destroy my mother's childhood home. I could see the plume of smok...

At this point, I wish they would close them all until the monsoons hit.

Mountains speak and wise men listen. John Muir That may be schizophrenia. What are these mountains telling you to do? Re: Best Mexican Restaurant in the Safford area

For a sit down I like El Coronado, best tacos & salsa in town! And for on the go I like Los Jilbertos. Cheap, huge portions & tasty (I have become quite fond of their fish burritos!).

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?

Just got off Mt Graham and it is snowing pretty good on top. Drove back down and did a hike starting at 5000 and up to 7000. It snowed on me the whole time, about a 1/2 inch at 7000 and just flakes at 5000. Also looks like it rained in Safford while I was on the mountain.

Re: How much Snow will we get this La Nina winter?

Hwy 366 (Swift Trail) that leads up into the Pinalenos was closed today due to heavy snow. They had the road blocked & a sheriff guarding it at the Coronado sign just before you go up. First time I have ever seen it closed this low due to snow! The sheriff told me that is had snowed a foot at Turkey...

Skies were clear at 1:00am over Safford and the moon looked just like rae-rae's first pic. Pretty cool!
