Great Questions... Number 1. Can we turn this question into silly items? Playtipus full of Cabernet. Nerf football (doubles as a pillow). Palm Pilot with topo software, books, games, music. Number 2. I guess I'm pretty lucky. The people I usually go with usually carry those items. So, I ignore most ...

Channel Islands

I am wondering if any of you have any hiking information about the Channel Islands (off the coast of Southern California). I will be visiting the island chain in a few weeks and hope to take a few walks among some of their undisturbed wilderness. I have read the normal information about them, but I ...

I posted this on one of the other threads, but it really belongs here; As to the identification thing, there actually are some of us who have taken to the Arizona bandanna flag as the way to be identified as a HAZ'er. Just look around. The bandanna may be in the back mesh pocket of a Camelbak, aroun...

Since I'm a nut, I'll tag on HEAT!
How can you say heat! One can always get warmer! If its minus 30 you can stay warm (look at the folks in Green Bay). But if it is 130 out, without electricity, how can you get cooler?

I use the MULE, but I've wanted something with a larger capacity. I've been to Camelbak's website before, but never went to that link. Looks like its time to spend some cash.

Thanks for the info!

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain...

Recent weather conditions here in Phoenix make me ponder my next step this coming weekend. I want to see the best possible after rain pools or after rain event ever! With my limited wet season hiking experience (I've truly only been hiking for the past year and a half and Arizona hasn't had ANY rain...

Welcome Back!

My shaking has finally stopped! Over a month...cold respectful hiking information to be found! A bit of reality had hit me and I didn't like it. It really sucks to actually have to read a book to research a trip rather than clicking a mouse. I don't know how I ever received a college deg...

I just did a quick search online for Runner's Den and couldn't find anything about them. I'm looking for a shop that can intelligently help me find new running shoes (Santa didn't come through). It sounds like you would recommend them. If so, where are they located?

If stopping for a break and taking off your pack, don't lie the pack down with the bladder spout thingie underneath or against a hard surface....(if you see a puddle, it's too late)...and wipe off the mouthpiece or you will get sandy backwash. Sandy or Sande backwash? Bad. Excuse me... really...

I'm usually the clock-watcher. If I am hiking alone my time is beginning to end. I try to break every hour, take in food and water, otherwise I'll forget until it is too late. If I hike in a group we usually go to a new trail and plan for a long stop/lunch at the mid-point destination to gather in t...

Nighthiker, I agree wholeheartedly with ck 1. Avoid the discount wholesale stores! I raced a few seasons on the California NORBA circuit (a long time ago) and was sponsored by a local shop. The knowledge, and the hands on information, that you’ll receive from the local bike store mechanic should hop...

The story of my life, Stan.

You're the Weimaraner's dad aren't you? :rollH:

Really though, no she doesn't hunt, but we did meet at the Chile Cook Off. And, it is great to be on-line and get participation in our quests to making our hikes even more pleasurable.

Thanks for the note!
