Re: Best Backpacking Libation

Somebody actually did this. It's approved by the US Bureau of Alcohol (and other stuff), and will be on sale this fall. It's powdered alcohol. http://gawker.com/powdered-alcohol-coming-to-a-liquor-store-near-you-1565094422 It seems that the product is somehow straight alcohol, with flavors added to...

Re: This Saturday! Pine Mtn Verde Rim Loop

Any concerns with the road conditions? Per toddak's post and searching the web, it looks like wet conditions make travel difficult. Looks as if it may be raining up there today.

I am 90% certain I am a "go". Question - meeting at the trailhead or somewhere in the valley for a carpool?

@SgtLumpy e-ink screen and solar charging seem to be the main differentiators here. e-ink for maps is compelling; color LCD screens can be hard to see sometimes and use a lot of power. Built in solar charging is also interesting. Personally I need to see a few reviews of working production models b...

Re: Where would you like to move?

... so can it not being 100 in July... 100 in July is no problem. 110+ is where it gets interesting. LOL I like AZ because even when it is 100+ here, you can just drive for a couple hours to the high country for a break from the heat. And you are just a relatively short drive to the beaches of Cali...

Re: help wit desert classic

Desert Classic is technically "out and back". There are several options for looping around on the trail, but end to end it is out and back. Edit: the description says "one way" for the mileage - meaning it is ~9 miles end to end. 18 if you go all the way and back. It doesn't mean "one way" as in the...

Is your brother an experienced hiker? Looks like you could bushwack in from near the Taylor Cabin TH, maybe move across that Eastern ridge towards hill 6416, and move down the ravine. Looks rugged but possible. The pictures look promising enough to justify an atempt to get there. When you say he cam...

Anything from the Peralta trailhead would be fine for your vehicle, the road is almost like pavement except for a few spots... and of course during/after a storm. Also Boulder Cyn or anything from Apache Trail (where you park at the marina or right off the road) would also be OK. Problem there is in...
