Re: Flagstaff 1 nighter options for newbies?

You might consider camping near the Lava River Tube and exploring it after you arrive late that evening and then backpacking somewhere near there. A late night explore of the Tube means you will not likely have to share it with other groups. It's always dark down there anyway.... Pun intended...

Re: Question about weather for AZT veterans...

This will keep your lower body and feet warmer with out having to take a heavy sleeping bag. Then you ...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

We have now had a pretty dry last half of summer/ monsoon season, and a record dry fall for Arizona, certainly the watershed areas. This has lasted into winter, and models forecast this for some time. This pattern may persist for the entire season. When was the last time something like this happene...

Re: 7th Annual New Year's Day Hike

Maybe it is time for an all canine annual hike. I am sure that Blanco and Cup would like to hike with Rowdy, Tugger, BrunoP and even that new guy Payton. Some place where they can chase the rabbits, watch the deer and the antelope play and where there is lots, and lots of warm water to paddle in. Ju...

Regarding the Superstitions - There will be a lot of day hikers off of Peralta and 1st Water Trail Heads but if you are backpacking there is a lot of back country campsites that will be vacant and available. Rogers Trough Trail Head on the south side of the wilderness is a good place to make a loop ...

@sweaty_trek_yeti In my backpacking prime my wife would drop me off near the Superstition Trail Heads and I would hitch hike and then hike or backpack from the south to the north or from the west to the east or vice a versa and she would pick me up three days later at the opposite end.
