Re: West Fork of Oak Creek #108 water levels

@hanmart
I haven’t been there recently but given the winter snowfall and how early in the season it is, it’s a good bet the ranger is right. I would expect 4-6 very, very cold mandatory swimmers in the upper half of the canyon.

@Nighthiker I'm not really sure how the text of the order foxtail lover attached could be any more clear? TEMPORARY CAMPING CLOSURE Pursuant to Title... the following acts are prohibited ... Re: Mindless weather chit chat

Today marks the end of an impressive 161 consecutive days below 90 degrees at PHX. The last 90 degree day was on October 28th. So not only was it a fantastic winter as far as precipitation goes, it was also one of the best temperature-wise in recent memory too! The record sub-90 streak is 206 days, ...

@herdbull Also, just for your information (and of those reading this forum later with similar queries), there are quite a few photos of this trail already posted on site. If you navigate over to the description page for that hike (here: https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=13 ), you'll have the ...

Re: Hikes en route to San Diego from Phx

@ddgrunning
Yes, it's warm and there's no shade. The route I ended up going doesn't have the scrambling, elevation gain, or route finding issues that coming over from the palms does. But I don't think I'd enjoy either on a sunny day over 80.

Re: Hikes en route to San Diego from Phx

If you haven't seen the Goat Canyon Trestle, it's a very worthy destination. I think this description takes you over the top after climbing out of Mortero Palms (also a neat area) but I got turned around when I tried that and did a different route to the railroad (check my triplogs and gps routes in...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

@Tough_Boots I'm not gonna lie here, I have done very little research on this law. But when congress votes 363-62, followed by 92-8 in the senate, and people like Arizona's Raul Grijalva says it "represents Congress at its best and truly gives the American people something to be excited about" whil...

Re: Death Valley N.P. enlarged

This bill is not a win. I think what it's technically called is a "win-win". It's what happened when government used to function. Two sides would come together and compromise, each giving up a little to the other, until both agreed on the result. You aren't ever going to make everybody happy. It re...

Re: Sabino Canyon Recreation Area Shuttle

There will be only 3 vehicles for the first few days of shuttle service on the Upper Sabino Canyon route, due to a windshield being replaced on the fourth vehicle. How many days does it take to replace a windshield? They should bring it to the local Circle K, and some pestering guy who won't leave ...

Re: Superstition Wilderness Pic (Where?)

I just can't imagine it being portrayed and for sale as being a scene in the "Superstition Wilderness" when it now appears to not be. It may have been labeled differently in the museum, but on the web it has the title "Superstition Grand Canyon". This somewhat ambiguous title may lead one to believ...
