Re: Humphrey's Summit Trail - July 4th

My mom backed-out of doing this hike next weekend. I'm game for the 4th, however.

Re: Humphrey's Summit Trail - July 4th

My mom & I are going to do this hike on June 30th. We'll be coming up from Phoenix on Friday afternoon, and hiking early on Saturday. If anyone's interested, let me know. We'll have 2 extra seats in the car (@ this point), and I'm sure she won't have any problem w/ taking anyone to the trailhead. Pr...

Re: See Canyon

Ran into a ranger when I did Horton Creek last Sunday. He said that See Canyon is in pretty good shape.

Re: Anyone done the Deer Creek Trail?

You'd better be leaving the trailhead damned near about sunrise this time of year. You probably won't be able to carry enough water to make it work, and you'll be exceptionally lucky to find water along the way. You could wait until the monsoon gets going (hopefully), but then you'll encounter anoth...

re: Pelican case

The Pelican case looks like the safest way to go, but I'm not sure I'll have access to it except when we're getting off of the boat in the late afternoon. I did this trip in 2004, and all of the non-ammo box-gear is stored pretty tight. I'll check with the outfitter (CRATE: highly recommended) & see.

re: lions

http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=37688 I took that on the Butterfly Trail in the Santa Catalinas last December. There were animal tracks all over the trail: deer, squirrel, chipmunk, and possibly rabbit. On the way back I ran into a family w/ 2 young kids who were running up and down the trail...

re: the road closed because of access issues

I heard that the east road that is closed due to access issues is because of a disgruntled landowner. Turns out her son was arrested in Phoenix for a crime that I don't remember, but I remember it was a pretty serious charge (I think it may have been child molestation, but I really don't remember). ...

Thanks everyone

I plan on having my 4 MP point-and-shoot out when I'm on the boat, but I'll also have access to my ammo can on the boat. I like the Pelican case, but the problem is that I think I'd have to throw it in my main drysack, and I want easy access to it when we stop the boat for a hike. I'm leaning toward...

SLR camera going down the Colorad River

I am rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in July, and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for safely taking a SLR camera along. The problems are that the camera may fall overboard (even though I don't plan to have it out when I'm on the boat), or that it will be soaked while we...
