Not true. Many workers will continue to work for free, they don't know how long this shutdown will last and if they will ever get paid for that time.

Re: If you like the national parks...

@paulhubbard While what you mentioned may be a good idea in theory think about the risk that this puts OUR National Parks in while they are closed. I think the best example would be AZ's own Petrified Forest National Park. Imagine leaving the public to "use at their own risk" for a week or so. Ther...

Re: Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve

@Tough_Boots In you're previous post you claim that Save the Cats was ready to remove all the cats at any time, the quote from the director and the large number of cats that remain at the preserve past the deadline says otherwise. only one view was offered at the start of this forum. Is there anoth...

Re: Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve

@Tough_Boots Just because you know someone who works for Save the Cats does not mean you have the whole story. Regardless as to whether or not removal of the cats WAS the goal is irrelevant, that IS clearly the goal now and the cat people had until today to do just that. Since there were still seve...

Re: Lost Hiker Found After Intensive Evening Search

It's unfortunate Maricopa & Pinal County can't respond likewise in it's Wilderness areas. Really the reason that this search likely ended so well is because this is a day use only area that is well patrolled by the NPS. Immediately when there is still a car parked at the trailhead after sunset they...

Re: Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve

We're dealing with a totally synthetic view of nature here Yep, because Domesticated House Cats i.e. the species we are talking about is a totally natural species. Evolved totally without the hand of man, natural selection made them extra cute, saves them from predators. but this is all speculation...

Re: Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve

Pellet guns work pretty well, and are quiet, too! Effective, yet frowned upon by some :( part of an organization that has been dealing with these cats for years Obviously they weren't doing that great of a job. Isn't several years enough time to capture and euthanize 50-80 cats? Since Aubudon and R...

Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve

Calling Gilbert Residents and Gilbert Riparian Preserve Visitors. I have provided a link to an AZ republic article on the feral cat problem at the preserve, and below is a forwarded email I received from a good friend from PeFo and a frequent visitor to the Riparian Preserve. Below the link is the e...

Tonto Trail: Hermit to Bright Angel.

If anyone is interested in doing this as a dayhike or backpack between January 5th and January January 17th let me know. It could be done as a dayhike I think, or we could take an easy pace and do it as an overnighter. Walk in permits shouldn't be too hard to get during this time period. If we do it...

Any one got spare crampons?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for someone who is willing to either loan me some crampons for a week or so, or who is looking to get rid of a spare pair and sell them for a reasonable price. Respond or pm me if you have any or know of someone who does. I need them by December 16th.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Tule to Peralta

Lots of stuff going on at the end of the semester and such. 2 projects due the the following week and the start of finals means that I can't spend 18 hours hiking in the supes that weekend. Add recovery time to that and I'll get nothing done and my grades will suffer. That is unless one of you guys ...

Re: Tule to Peralta

I am considering wussying out. I hiked 23 miles in the everglades in one day and that was super tiring, I dont think I could have tacked on an extra 14 miles that day. Don't want to jeopardize my own or the groups safety. Man I will feel like a wuss if I cancel, plus I havent hiked with you guys in ...

Is someone going to start a separate event "Rescue the Tule to Peralta dayhikers" leaving on the same date? Might be a good idea.

Re: Tule to Peralta

Tule Trailhead is accessible by car isn't it? Jeez, adding mileage like its nothing. You guys can add mileage to meet up with the campers, but I'm continuing to trudge along towards Peralta. I'm not going out of the way on this trip for anything. I am all for taking the route with the least AEG, the...

Re: Tule to Peralta

I'm in.... ugh dude. 36 miles in the supes is far different from 36 miles anywhere else. I will be hiking in long pants for a change. Hello catsclaw. Hopefully I'm capable. FYI I plan on sleeping the entire drive to the trailhead and napping HEAVILY all day Friday. Unfortunately Prop 203 didn't pass...

Re: I Voted Today!

I voted early... some of the most important votes I cast were for ballot initiatives. Happy to see that 75% of voters shot down an attempt by the legislature to raid the conservation fund, and 70% of voters voted to keep first things first. The question is Why do AZ voters always shoot down these ri...
