Re: Value sleeping bags

Personally, I've never been happy with Kelty's - and I've had several friends who share my sentiments. However, others swear by them. I suppose I've always slept cold, though. True. I had a kelty 15 bag and I was freezing at around 35-40 degrees. I did score a big agnus 15 at one of the rei garage ...

Re: Another missing hiker in the Supes

Saw it on the news a bit ago. Apparently familiar with the area and has hiked in there before. Went solo and did not tell anybody where he was going. Hope he just decided to stay out a little longer.

Re: Close encounter

Could be a peregrine falcon, they can hit speeds of over 150mph. Search for the video of the skydiver who has one for a pet. They leave the plane together and the falcon actually passes the guy on the way down. Wanna see something really cool, I saw one hit a pigeon at south mountain once at speed. ...

What she said.

And after the floods last year and the year before, You get to swim in ankle deep water. Literally, unless they built dams again.

Re: Havasupai Backpacking Trip 2.0!

Id love to but with my job I can only commit about 7 days in advance at the most. Usually more like 4 days with a heads up. So for me its last minute stuff and solo. Thats why I never sign up for stuff anymore, Ive had to flake out last minute too often. (And why I quit ABC). All the good backpackin...

Re: Havasupai Backpacking Trip 2.0!

I did it last year. We just went down and went to the office and asked if we could get permit. No problems. It was right after the flood, so I think people were leery of going, and then another hit while we were there. Needless to say it was dead down there, Maybe 15 people total, this was in August.

Hikes in Kauai

Anyone know of a good dayhike there. Working on Fri but I am off on Sat-sun. A 5 mile dayhike would be perfect.

Re: Ooops - base jumper snags in Supes

When it comes to Wilderness Areas, there is plenty in the rules that require interpretation. In the end, its all up to the Ranger interpreting the laws. But we have never had a problem anywhere. The one time it did it was immediately thrown out of court. Cant enforce a law that is not a letter!

Re: Ooops - base jumper snags in Supes

First off, there is nothing illegal about jumping there. BASE falls in a "grey" area there. Parachutes are not motorized. The rangers actually come and watch us jump there. He didnt pack it backwards, he had an off heading opening, a phenomena where the canopy happens to get pulled out and turned ba...

Re: Chances of getting a permit...

Oh, you would probably get a permit to camp at indian garden no problem. I never see people staying the night there. From there you could do day hikes to plateau point and phantom. The last time I was there a friend got injured near phantom and could not make the trip up to the top in one day. Our p...
