Re: I LOVE MY REI DIVIDEND!

Am I the only one that waits until July or whenever it is to get a dividend check mailed to me? Using your dividend at the store is not a dividendable purchase so I never want to do that. There isn't a whole lot at REI that I want or need anymore either, but that's beside the point.

Re: What's your least favorite?

I put them out of mind so now I don't remember. :?

But if I have to pick a couple, I'd choose Camelback Mountain (Echo Canyon Trail) and Piestewa Peak, Summit Trail. It seems I end up on both about once a year. This year it was last Saturday for both. They're just way to busy for my taste.

The app shows where on the map you are and you can also see the track for the trail. There is no arrow pointing which way to go, you'll need to figure that out yourself.

Is there a difference between your summer and winter shorts? Mine are the same.

@rkroeger
I've never heard of anybody having a problem like this. Smart water bottles, 2 liter soda bottles, plus many other bottles all have the same threading that the Sawyer filters have. Strange.

The only permit that is needed is for backcountry camping in Grand Canyon NP.

Re: Garmin Maps the Arizona Trail

@Bumblebee
What I did, was join the ATA and then downloaded the AZT tracks and waypoints available to ATA members onto my Garmin GPS. My GPS has Garmin's basic topo maps and that worked fine with the supplied tracks/waypoints.

It's a paved road until the last bit. Most cars should be fine.

Re: AZT thru hike in March 2018

Gravity filtering is so much easier. I'll only use a pump under the worst possible conditions. I don't understand this. I can't imagine how having to set up and deal with the whole gravity filter mess could possibly be easier than the minute or so it takes to filter a liter through a Sawyer Squeeze...

Yep, right now I have the top mileage, but it's with the knowledge that that's only because you haven't logged a few miles along the PCT :app:.

Re: Maricopa Trail Info

I wanted to ride the Estrella but one of my companions didn't have the right bike for it. So I tackled about 80 miles of the MT Thursday through Sunday and I don't think this is the case as the trails through Estrella are smooth, plenty wide, and climbing is limited and an easy grade. It would have...

Re: Maricopa Trail Info

@ultrazona Thanks for that. So the MT is closed through Tres Rios? Was that because you didn't have the Tres Rios permit or is it just closed/fenced? Surprised you didn't ride through the Estrellas. Was it easy to pick up the MT north of I-10 to White Tanks? It appears most of that is along roads. ...

Also, even if one was required and you had the multi-agency pass (you know, the $80/year NP pass), that would work.

Re: Packrafting trips in January

@hikeaz
Packrafting isn't allowed in GCNP when there is a reasonable overland trail/route to use. For example, a buddy put in for a permit to hike out to Clear Creek, then packraft back to Bright Angel. He wasn't allowed the packrafting part, so we had to hike both out and back.

Probably something on the BCT but I don't know where you are meeting. At this time, for all the Agua Fria crossings on the BCT (or any other place for that matter), you should be able to rock hop, or just step across the Agua Fria.
