Re: NOBO AZT Spring 2018 ~ Mid-March

The desert can get cold at night. I think you would be more comfortable with your 20 degree bag.

Re: Packrafting trips in January

@hikeaz
Packrafting isn't allowed in GCNP when there is a reasonable overland trail/route to use. For example, a buddy put in for a permit to hike out to Clear Creek, then packraft back to Bright Angel. He wasn't allowed the packrafting part, so we had to hike both out and back.

@RowdyandWidowmaker
Probably something on the BCT but I don't know where you are meeting. At this time, for all the Agua Fria crossings on the BCT (or any other place for that matter), you should be able to rock hop, or just step across the Agua Fria.

Re: Agua Fria

@RowdyandWidowmaker I doubt there is any water running in Black Canyon but since your title is "Agua Fria," I'll assume you're asking if the Agua Fria is flowing? The Black Canyon Trail (BCT) crosses the Agua Fria in five places. The northernmost crossing, north of Mayer is usually dry and I doubt ...

Re: Maricopa Trail Info

@joebartels If I actually end up doing/completing my hike of the MT, I'll save GPX tracks and was hoping to create some descriptions and such. If this happens, I'd be happy to coordinate with you for the best way to organize this on HAZ. The plan is two phases so I can stop at home, get cleaned up,...

Re: Maricopa Trail Info

@ultrazona Funny you should ask, as I'm contemplating backpacking the MT from the East side of South Mountain clockwise to around the Scottsdale/Gateway area and have been working on the logistics. Unfortunately MT related info is severely lacking here on HAZ and that section is not mapped on the M...

Re: Best Air Quality In The Phoenix Area

Thought about Black Canyon City, but it is just as bad as Phoenix right now. What spot within a 60 minute drive of Phoenix has the cleanest air so that I can plan a hike for the weekend? I hiked Deem Hills in the north valley today after reading this. What I can tell you is that from Deem Hills, th...

Trail Tree Trimming

For the past few years, a Palo Verde tree near the top of the Ridgeline Trail in Deem Hills Phoenix Park has been decorated with Christmas tree ornaments. Sometime between when I passed the tree yesterday and today, it was decorated. I'm sure that there are trees along other trails that also get dec...

Re: 3 Days in the Superstitions

This was posted yesterday (11/26) on the Grand Enchantment Trail Facebook Group: Rogers Spring - trough dry, pipe cut. Not too much further up trail 212 there's a drainage with a scoopable puddle just below the trail (33.426453, -111.172350) Rogers Canyon - dry Closer Spring - dry, both at crossing ...

Re: RS - Reported track data differences

When you save or post from Route Scout to HAZ it auto syncs elevation to 1/3 arc National Elevation Data which is typically more accurate. Mileage shouldn't change much if any from RS to HAZ. If I felt up to it, I would argue that that probably isn't the case as far as AEG goes. It will be more acc...

Re: Staying on the trail

A properly prepared hiker will have no problem following the trail. Yea, sure. For me, there were portions of the trail that were very difficult to follow, even with GPS tracks. For example, when I hiked passage 3 in early Oct. 2015, the trail was completely overgrown with grass, cairns were not vi...

Re: Best hiking shoes for flat feet

I don't have flat feet, but I do have a rather low arch. To me, flat feet (fallen arches) are something to be concerned about, low arches are not. I do exercises most every day to help keep my feet strong and walk around in bare feet to help that. Wearing shoes constantly is like keeping your feet i...

@gummo
Maybe, but I do know it's fairly common that rattlers share the same dens with others such as tortoises and Gila Monsters. I also heard that the photographer went to photograph the tortoise and didn't know the rattlesnake was there until it climbed on.

@hikeaz
I don't follow the picture with the two bar graphs. In the first, for Demographics, the bars add up to 138%. In the second, for Income, the bars add up to 164%. Are the graphs out of whack or am I missing something?
