Re: My first rock gym trip tonight...wanna join?

Once I feel my rotator cuff injury is fully healed I would LOVE to join you at a gym. I've really been wanting to get into this for the past few months. I especially want to climb Weaver's sometime in the near future. How much did you spend on the harness and shoes?

Re: 4 Season Hennessy Hammock set up

I have no experience with this fly but I do know some people can make it work pretty well. As long as you figure out how to pitch it right it should block rain/wind well. I think I've heard of somebody weathering out a hurricane on the AT with it. Still I would say I wouldn't go with it since it pr...

Re: 4 Season Hennessy Hammock set up

Lastly, how's the fly? I've heard some complaints on the stock fly, and it seems that many abandon it in favor of a different one. Does it provide adequate protection from the wind and rain and whatnot? I have no experience with this fly but I do know some people can make it work pretty well. As lo...

Re: Reavis Ranch

skip the flashlights - as long as youve got a headlamp your good to go (bring an extra battery or two) Although this is somewhat a matter of personal preference, I don't like the idea of only bringing only one source of light. For one like I said if you loose one you have a backup (once again varie...

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

Mehhh I usually hang only about 4 or so inches off the ground anywho : P I'll have to plan this eventually and will try do it on a night that's going to be totally clear so if I can't setup my hammock I can at least just throw my bag and pad on the ground.

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

I've been wanting to climb Weaver's for ages now. I almost had a chance this weekend when I car camped at the crosscut TH next to some guys who were gonna climb the hand the next day and then weaver's the day after. They had and extra harness and everything and offered for me to come along but alas ...

Yikes dude. I hope everything turns out okay with these guys. At least they are stuck out there in the cooler season but still not a good situation.

Re: Reavis Ranch

Glad to see you use flashlights plural. Don't slack on that one. And take my advice and keep them both in different spots so you don't loose both of em at once like I've done before :D

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

I dont recall having to place hand to rock in any spot except the climb near the top, rated at 5.4 or slightly higher. For the life of me, I can not remember anything even approaching 5th class on the way up Brown's Peak. There was a spot that I climbed near the second peak that was definitely 5th ...

Re: Reavis Ranch

Nice to hear your first backpack went so well. Now you have opened yourself to seeing much more remote areas ; ) And don't worry that pack weight will thin itself out soon enough with a little investment. What's your packlist right now though out of curiosity.

Ya sorry I've been getting carried away with speculative stuff lately. Need to just shut my mouth unless I have real experience with stuff.....just my trying to be helpful but I understand where purely speculative advice can do just the opposite. Thanks for chiming in with your real world advice Jho...

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

Just from the research I have done on it...notice the phrase "from what I understand" : P I am very interested in doing this sometime in the near future so I spent like a whole saturday looking up various things about the route.

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

Ya from what I understand Brown's and parts of Siphon Draw are more technical than anything you would see on MR for Whitney...although you have to do class 3 for most of the day which is the kicker with Whitney. I'd imagine it's more about endurance than technical skills. One thing to note is I thin...

He is not exagerating by any means. There's a reason we've scheduled a cleanup of that section of trail. And the road as well can be very bad. It's seems to be hit or miss whether queen creek is flowing but I've heard you don't want to mess with it if it is. I've heard of people getting trapped behi...
