Re: New to the area!

I felt like the proverbial "Jew wandering in the desert" for nigh on 40 years until I moved to the desert in '93 (Tucson). It's been the Land of Milk and Honey since. Well, at least since I discovered hikearizona.com in aught '8.

Re: HAZ Tracks - GPS Hiking App

@joe bartels

Thanks for the feedback. I tried an extremely limited, backyard experiment doing what you suggested even before I got your reply, but I had limited success. I'll give it a more extensive and thorough test today or tomorrow, and I'll report my results when I'm done. Thanks again.

Re: HAZ Tracks - GPS Hiking App

Back on May 9th cdeperro asked "Joe...is there a possibility of having a really simple waypoint functionality that works something like this: press an icon, box opens to enter text. It marks exactly where you are...NOT the center of the map". And Joe replied "Might see it as early as June for Androi...

Re: Republic Wireless Moto X HAZ Tracks

Yo Chumley, I expect I'm the guy who was responsible for reporting issues with the Moto X. My phone, and I believe all Republic Wireless phones, use a modified version of Android. I'm using the latest version of Android that has been certified for RW phones, but the version is only Android 4.4.4. On...

Republic Wireless Moto X HAZ Tracks

Do any of my HAZ peeps use Republic Wireless as your phone service provider? If so, can you create HAZ Tracks tracks in any Location Mode other than "Device only"? The HAZ Tracks "how to" instructions say to set the phone's Location mode to "High accuracy", but when I do that I get an infinite "Dete...

Re: Camping in Moab Memorial Day weekend

Are you planning on mountain biking? If not, then Moab on Memorial Day weekend would not be my first choice of destinations. If you're simply looking for world-class hiking, then Outdoor Lover knows of what she speaks. The San Rafael Swell is slot canyon heaven. The SRS offers lots of technical AND ...

Re: Friends of Cedar Mesa

We loved Dark Canyon... I completely concur with CK. I spent a few days in the bowels of Dark Canyon back in aught '05, http://hikearizona.com/photoset.php?ID=15678&start=30, and I was so blown away by the area I plan on DC being the "final resting spot" for half of my ashes (Death Hollow being the...

Re: Proximity Alert 4/25-5/2

Does anyone know when the permitting process became a reality. I visited Moon House in April 2007, and there was no permitting process I was aware of at that time.

Re: Proximity Alert 4/25-5/2

@big_load Permits? We didn't have no stinkin' permits!!!! If permits are required to visit Moonhouse, none of us in my group had them, or even mentioned anything about permits. That said, I didn't know about the permitting requirements to visit the WAVE. I knew there was a nominal fee, and I droppe...

Was there any mention in the article of an Exowrist? "A 7 percent reduction in metabolic energy was roughly equivalent to removing 4.5 kilogram (10 pound)"??? Hmmm!!! Does anyone know what the conversion factor for converting kilograms to pints of beer is?

Re: Google Earth PRO is now FREE

@big_load Yo Eagle, If you're so smart, can you interpret this Cesium is a JavaScript library for creating 3D globes and 2D maps in a web browser without a plugin. It uses WebGL for hardware-accelerated graphics, and is cross-platform, cross-browser, and tuned for dynamic-data visualization. Cesium...

Re: Google Earth PRO is now FREE

@The Eagle Yo Eagle, I just had another epiphany, or something that might be so construed. Have you stumbled on any GE Prof...

FREE!!!! That's my motto as in, "If it's FREE, gimme some (unless it's surgery)". That said, have any of my HAZ peeps experimented with this FREE version of GE? I checked out the web site, and the features of the FREE version of GE Professional are very impressive, but are any of these features of v...

@The Eagle Yo Eagle (or the more formal "The Eagle" if that's your preference), Me thinks te-wa meant to say "any info on GPS applications for the android phone that WORK?". I've tried a bunch of different settings on my android Moto X, and I've never gotten past the infinite "Determining accuracy"...

Bartels???? YIKES! Why do I pay any attention to him? Maybe yooz guys shouldn't be so quick to dismiss Joe. My "High accuracy" setting is now working.
