Re: Skull cave...again I know...

While I question the wisdom of doing this as a day hike with the short daylight hours, I'm tempted to say "I'm in!". Any chance you can move it up to Sat Feb 8 ? PM with details/suggestions...

Re: what is the best gps device?

PLC920483957694856749 Liz has inadvertently stumbled upon my numerological code... This was to be my new screen name once I'd attained total enlightenment. Of course, that can't happen until I figure out how to use all the advanced GPS functions that will help me find said enlightenment... I could ...

Re: what is the best gps device?

I'm going to continue using my 60cx until it blows up... By then, maybe there will be something better that actually works the way users think it should... There are still "features" on my unit I don't comprehend; and using the Garmin support groups, etal has been an exercise in frustration. How har...

You guys do realize there are modern alternatives that don't gum up the display with decomposed adhesive !? Coincidentally, they're referred to as screen protectors (of course, being the Luddite I am, I have no current need for them...)

I went to untrusted-spam-site and downloaded just AZ. So I think I'll just get the Garmin SW, it's got to be easie I believe I have the very software you are referring to; I rather like it...You really ARE technically challenged, aren't you!? ...and here I've been thinking it had to be an act to ga...

Re: what is the best gps device?

I got by with my old eTrex Legend until it absolutely wouldn't function any longer; then I bought another one for $40.00. To make it usable, I went so far as to create custom topo maps so they'd fit in its puny little 8 meg memory space (8MB's!! - who'd ever need more than that!? :o ). When Liz offe...

Re: BaseCamp track time

GPS Babel is an awesome tool!! I used it, and other tools, to convert maps and data into useable chunks my old eTrex could digest (try finding map files under 8MB without it...). unfortunately, I've migrated to BaseCamp (either laziness or complacence drove me there) and I've just resolved myself to...

Re: Last-minute Pinal Mountains hike

This thread seems the appropriate place to post since this, too, is a last-minute hike... Does anyone know if permits are required for this hike? I'm planning on following 'Eagle's route (http://hikearizona.com/gps=9359) to keep things simple (relatively...). Plan on heading up Sat morning, hitting ...

Instead of a tea house, you'd think an opium parlor would be more appropriate... Would certainly make getting back down less traumatic!

@RobertBrosko If you're heading out this weekend, you've got some homework to do!! I consider myself a dweeb (others have different terms to describe me...) but it took me some time to figure out the intricacies of my devices (old eTrex Legend, currently 60CS); I'm still figuring out there are thin...
