Re: 2013 National Parks Close for Government Shutdown

During the last shutdown, AZ was able to pony up the funds to keep things running. The present administration has no desire to let that happen; they want everyone to suffer as much as possible... I'm not going to waste my breath trying to talk sense to my distinguished representatives from Kaliforni...

Re: BaseCamp track time

@coanbru
Shame one has to lay out $600.00 + to get a unit with decent firmware... With all the deployed units on the planet, one might think Garmin could write a patch to keep Active Logs "active" once they're saved to an SD card... :SB:

Assuming the track data is complete, it should be listed in the Track Properties [Right Click or Double Click the Track to Open]. All values are included in the Properties screen - Summary, Time, Speed and Elevation. If you're using a Mac, all bets are off...

Re: Garmin Gpsmap 62s

@Grasshopper
Did Garmin abandon the ludicrous requirement to rename Tracks with more than 500 points before uploading to the device? Anything besides Active Log results in an error message (track truncated or some such...) on the 60xx series.

Maybe they should hire the Google Street View crew to record the route... The "virtual" Wave would be much safer.

Re: Arizona Epic Adventures -Inner Basin Upward-Camp at 11,0

'm afraid, though, if I get a permit for North Bass, the Gems or Nanko and post it up in a meetup I'll end up with people who can't do the hike. Not to mention those bitter middle-aged males , who may not only be antisocial but also misogynistic. Does this mean you won't let me go on your Nankoweap...

I'm probably failing to grasp the larger picture, but... why is the advertised Meetup group being linked to from HAZ!? It seems to violate the guidelines Joe has set out in the HAZ Forum Guidelines (Any link sending participation away is not allowed). Since many of us aren't welcome there, due to ou...

Re: Backpacking Stoves.

Impulse buying... :--: I can't say too much because I've gotten into trouble a time or two... I actually shopped around for my MSR International when I got it two years ago...$40 got me the stove, a 22oz fuel bottle (that I can fill ...), a bag, a tool kit and a user manual... I was thinking of sell...

Re: Backpacking Stoves.

@beterarcher From what I've been able to read on these stoves, they use their own bottle AND it can only be filled 2/3 with fuel when using it... From the reports I've read, it heats faster than an MSR but fuel consumption is higher. I'll keep my eyes open for a manual and forward a copy if I get l...
