Re: Is bad accuracy of tracks normal?

Could be a learning curve; just doesn't seem intuitive (like renaming Tracks with more than 500 points to Active Log ) - Who thinks of that stuff when designing the hardware/firmware!? I usually clear all track data before starting a hike so everything is, presumably, starting at zero. This doesn't ...

Re: Is bad accuracy of tracks normal?

Looking over the GPS-related threads, this looks like the appropriate place to post this inquiry... Since acquiring my 60CX, I've noticed an annoying discrepancy between mileage shown on my unit's summary screen versus what is being reported in my Track properties. Most-recent example is the Aqua Ti...

Re: MapDex, Mac & MapSource

@kingsnake I don't have the MAC version... My Windows version (4.0.5) has two commands to reset mapviews - Ctl+N to realign North, Ctl+T to recenter at the point of interest. The only other View controls I've got is selecting 3D, 2D, a combination of the two and Map Overview (mostly useless....). A...

Re: MapDex, Mac & MapSource

Loading/installing Mapsource has always been problematic if one didn't have the original software that came with the unit. There were some "hoops" users had to jump through to fake out their Windows-based PC's. I'm not sure what MAC users had to do... Basecamp, once one gets over the belligerent int...

Re: How do you carry your handgun while backpacking?

A lot of people rave about the Safepacker holster but it seems bulky and silly I agree!! Their website describes the product this way..."...Possibly the most usable gun case ever made" (Emphasis added by me, incidentally). It's rugged and useful but .. it doesn't afford quick access. If that's a co...

Re: How do you carry your handgun while backpacking?

I've had fairly decent luck with my Galco Miami Classic . I had to adjust it so it clears the straps on my pack; it hangs a bit lower than normal but stays put and doesn't get in my way (too much). A thigh holster is more comfortable (for me, anyway) but I can't use it (unless I'm in Arizona). I wou...

Re: Do two hiking poles help that much?

can't imagine hiking the Canyon without them. Amen to that!! Having come from CA, I didn't use them on my first trip to GC; what a mistake!! Now, I use two poles; couldn't imagine hiking without them (except in CA where many of our "trails" are forest service roads or well-groomed routes). I can't ...

Re: Mindless competition

when did hiking transition from a recreational pursuit to some goal driven compulsion Sadly... I've hiked with more than a few folks who seem to have OCD when it comes to peaks. And almost all, without fail, have asked if I've hiked (or will be hiking) Whitney (as if that's the be-all, end-all to a...
