Re: Time to purchase a new camera...suggestions??

I have an SLR but it's too heavy so I seldom take it. I always have my Canon PowerShot A2000 IS. It runs for a long time on two AA batteries and has an excellent zoom. 10 megapixel to top it off with a large viewing window and it works great. I would highly recommend this camera.

Re: Dripping Spring Loop Backpack

This is an awesome hike bro, I just did it awhile back: http://hikearizona.com/x.php?I=4&UID=&ORBY=&start=920&tag=50103&ZTN= Reed Spring was a good place to camp but I was coming in from the afternoon on a Friday. You could probably get in deeper than that. It'll be "hammock land" along that creek p...

Re: Blow gun or some other quiet method of pigeon control

They make rainbird type impact sprinklers with motion detectors on them that would probably work for a back patio. BB guns work great but now-a-days you just can't use them anymore. When I was a kid back in the 70's my brother and I used to clean the wires behind our house and any of the neighbor's ...

Re: Auto breakin at Reavis TH

Don't you AZ folks just release a bagful of snakes in your vehicles before embarking? I am so going to do that with my funky truck next time. You don't have to feed them much and besides a badger would probably tear up the upholstery (my second option.) Regarding auto/battery damage... If I had to ...

Re: Yosemite in July suggestions

I was checking out coming from the north and Tuolumne seems to be a reasonable re-supply point for any hike. I decided to come from the south out of Wawona http://hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5055 I already took the vacation days off from work and secured the Wilderness Permit for the tr...

Re: Yosemite 76mi Backpack

I reserved the Wilderness Permit yesterday. The camps may change somewhat upon further research (some of these spots are bug city.) Also, per the Ranger I spoke with, the Tuolumne Meadows trail head in July is already totally booked so "officially" there won't be a stop there ;) because saying that ...

Yosemite 76mi Backpack

High Sierra extravaganza! :y: I already got the days off and am already committed to going. This will be a strenuous hike that won't be overly taxing on the daily mileage but the elevations traversed are more than what many are used to. Here's the low down: July 7th-15th 9 days 8 nights. 76.76 miles...

Yosemite in July suggestions

My 75yr old Dad lives and works in Yosemite. He said he'll deliver me to any trail head (within reason) and do some food drops for me if I need them. What I'm thinking is doing an 8 day hike in mid July that doesn't require some insanely hard to get permit or lottery to get on the trail. Something t...

Re: Auto breakin at Reavis TH

it's not enough to be upset about damage to property. In a self-defense situation, the presumption of appropriate use of force is now with the user and the burden is now on the Prosecution to prove that that the use was not warranted. What happened on Mogollon Rim? Anyway, I was obviously being ton...

Re: Frog Tank Trail

Just finished. Here's the triplog: http://hikearizona.com/TL.php?ID=50865 It was the best hike so far. The diversity is amazing. If you come from the south it's less mileage than the way I went but the two night stay was nice. You might be able to get to Fish Creek Canyon-Roger's Canyon-Rough Canyon...

Re: Auto breakin at Reavis TH

I was hit also. Clean break-in with slim jim probably. They didn't seem to take anything but left my battery disconnected as if to show that they were there in some kind of joking way. I'm not laughing. They don't realize that there are some hunters that frequent that trail head. I've seen these guy...

Furthermore, a few Maricopa, Tohono O'odham and other desert tribes are starting to re-learn about traditional foods in an effort to stem the terrible toll of diabetes on their people A lot of that can be attributed to overweight. Generations of people living off of the land caused a favorable gene...

Cool. I have an idea where you're talking about. I'll keep an eye out. BTW watch for rattlesnakes with the dog. I came across one last week on Dutchman. Probably nothing to worry about. I'm sure they'll really only want to climb into camper's sleeping bags at night to stay warm. :sl:

Re: Frog Tank Trail

I am thinking of doing a Reavis Ranch -> Frog Tank -> Roger's Canyon loop this April. Has anyone ever stayed in the creek for the North part of the Frog Tank trail? Also is there a year round water source near Angel Basin. I know it's late notice but I'm doing that this weekend Sat-Mon. I'm asking ...

See you there. Where you going to be? South of the abandoned farm implements (http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=121723) by the big tree at the end where the creek takes a turn? http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=121720
I'll keep an eye peeled along the way as I'm coming in.

Reavis-Rogers cyn Backpack

This is it. The three day I've been planning, a 31.7 mi. balloon loop. Going to Reavis Sat. 4-10-10, Sun. 4-11 to somewhere in Roger's Cyn (probably 33.45038, -11.19654 unless somebody has a better suggestion), Mon. 4-12 back home. Hoping that there's water somewhere in Roger's Cyn. still. I want to...
