Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun

Yeah, I checked the webcam again later today and I could see the snow level was higher than treeline. It was hard to tell earlier with some clouds still lingering. I'll be patiently awaiting the next storm. Thought this system was stronger than it actually was.

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun

San Francisco Peaks have some snow above treeline, but the Snotel site at 9700ft isn't reporting any accumulation.

Re: I am one month into my AZ hiking adventure

If I play music without headphones and no one else is around to hear it, does it make a sound? It happens occasionally when I know I'm alone - just keep the device handy so I can turn it down in the event that someone actually does show up. Common courtesy takes care if a lot issues.

Re: Sun Glasses UV Protection

I got a $40 pair of Native sunglasses 3 or 4 years ago without looking at any labels regarding protection. I guess I just like to live on the edge.

In response to the poll: I tried clicking the diamond between "yes" and "no" and nothing happened, so I went with yes.

Re: Bowl-shaped mountain north of Gila Bend

Woolsey Peak comes to mind. It looks like a big butte from a lot of directions, but a look on a map reveals that it slopes to the southeast with somewhat of a short rim on the SSW and north sides. It's a very prominent and noticeable peak in that area.

Hope that helps.

Re: 4th Annual New Year's Day Peak Celebration

I remember looking at Maggies on maps years ago when I started hiking and even driving out to the west side of it to see how the roads were. I never got around to hiking there, though. Color me interested.

I totally missed that episode. Guess I've got some catching up to do.
Reminds me of the double rainbow guy a couple seasons ago.

@SpiderLegs
It sucks watching the time, and probably endurance, go out the window, but what can ya' do? On the brightside, that's a lot of gas money saved.

Re: The 2014! self propelled totals thread.

I was picking up some momentum in Utah and then I got hit with a sore hamstring, followed by a sore throat, followed by an ear infection that's been going on for the last week. Hoping to still get a couple skyislands/some other Southern AZ peaks, and maybe some prominence peaks/county highpoints in ...

Seeing new places and more challenging hikes. Every hike is training for the next. The more endurance I have, the more I can do and see. It's a cycle.

Re: Arizona peak-bagging, county by county

Black Mesa is still on my radar. I'm normally free Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, but I won't be able to go until October. I'd like to do Graham from Gibson Canyon, too. Not sure how much hell comes with that bushwhack, but I'd guess a lot. Starting from "the top" is not an appealing option and As...
