Re: Superstition Mountains in a Jeep.

Try Forest route 172 to Rogers trough and complete the loop by continuing on Forest Route 650. A trip you won't soon forget.

Re: Search and Rescue

Something is not right in regards to Search and Rescue in the Pinal County area of the Superstition Mountains. Please take a look at the following links, make your own judgement and perhaps voice your displeasure to your elected politicians. Your life or someone you love may depend on it. http://www...

Search and Rescue

I think its outrageous that politics got in the way of a search and rescue mission. No one knows the Superstitions better than Superstition Search and Rescue. The politicians have to be held accountable. http://www.abc15.com/content/news/southeastvalley/apachejunction/story/Official-Missing-hiker-fo...

Cougars generally sound like a woman being strangled to death. I have heard one, and it did sound something like that.
Interesting confession.

Re: Parking my car at W. Supes trailheads

Most thieves look in the truck or car before they take a chance. If the interior is clean with no obvious loot they move on. Put everything in the trunk. Additionally I leave a few empty shot gun shell boxes in the truck, one right on the dashboard one on the drivers seat.....to send a message.

Great.....keep using it, as with anything safety related, we have to be familiar and comfortable with it BEFORE the emergency.

Re: GPS wierdnesses

I have a Garmin e trex and as long as I set it up correctly it has never failed me. Usually its operator error when something goes wrong. The most important thing is that everything in its memory is cleared before you start a track. It sounds to me like it was mixing data from something prior.

Re: SPOT

I had it fail for me once or twice-but that was when I got impatient and put it back in the pack. If I stop for a snack I place it out in plain sight of the sky and it works every time. Very popular up in the Sierras its considered standard equipment by backcountry guides.

Re: What is the best pop-up tent?

With the high cost of equipment I thought some might be interested in an inexpensive backpacker tent with fly and a floor, stand alone, for less than $ 60.00. It weighs less than 3 pounds. I saw it at Sams club and they have lots of them. Great chance to try an overnight and see if you like it.
