Re: Vegan = higher plasma protein levels = faster recovery time

@CannondaleKid I just have to give a big thumbs up for the random phrenology reference. P.S. I am a vegetarian that has a real love affair with milk and cheese keeping me from going vegan. Hiking and exercize have done way more to my overall health than diet ever has. I have trended away from the s...

Re: 29 year old woman died this afternoon at Picacho Peak

Just horrible! They have been closing Picacho for the summer the last few years, any idea why they did not close it this year? I had spoken with one of the rangers last year and he mentioned they close in the summer for just this reason, they end up having to do way more SAR work than the rest of th...

Re: The 2015! self propelled totals thread.

My main numbers goal is to hit at least 500 miles, and 130-150,000 for AEG. I generally only have time to get in one good grinder a week (solely supporting a family of four, plus I like to actually spend time with the wife and my 8 & 5 year old girls too) so I try to maximize my weeklys. I tend to g...

Re: Hiking Boots

I am a honk for Keen shoes through and through. I am cursed/ blessed with wide, hobbit-like feet and this brand seems custom made to accommodate as such. I have burned through 4 different pairs, and even some of their hiking sandals which I reserve for canyoneering and the like. I have had a few dif...

@Jim_H
Thanks for the quick response Jim. That is about what I was figuring, so I will be doing my best camel impression and loading up at Hutch's pool. Looking forward to it, temps should be great up in the high country!

Catalinas Water availability

I am planning an impromptu backpack trip this weekend, and I wanted to see if anyone might have recent water reports from the area I am looking at. I was planning a counterclockwise loop from the Sabino Canyon Visitor's Center, up Sabino to West Fork, then over on the Cathedral trail to the Window a...

Re: Pusch Peak Bees

Thanks for the post Jim, I have been thinking about hitting this one up before the summer hits, maybe I will just wait a few more weeks and see how things work out (if at all). I generally prefer to avoid being swarmed, I mean Catclaw and Agaves are one thing, but bees? Seriously??

Re: AZT 16 & 17 water availability

Thanks for the info gents, I had already looked at the water reports on HAZ and there was no recent activity so I went hunting on other sites, and thought I would see if anyone had more anecdotal info. Plus, I try to make it part of my life plan to never stick the sucky tube into the mud... :GB: As ...

AZT 16 & 17 water availability

I was hoping to get in a two day backpacking trip in a few weeks to do passages 16 & 17 on the AZT, heading north to south. I wanted to see if anyone had any information on water availability, especially along the Gila. Our plan was to start from the Picketpost TH and get in about 15-18 miles or so ...

Big thanks to all who worked on this one, I wish I could have made it out to help! It is good to know that the canyon will be restored for my next trip out there.

Filtering Water in the Santa Catalinas

I have been getting in a number of shorter day hikes in the Catalinas when I am down in Tucson for work, but I feel like I have been missing out on all of the best the area has to offer without putting in the extra time to get into the true backcountry. I hope to get in an overnight trip sometime in...
