Re: Boot Repair

Well, the "surgery" is done and the boots are in the "recovery" room... Working with "Goo" is really not my Forte. I think I really needed an extra pair of hands to do this. It would have almost been easier to rip the whole sole off and then do it, but I was afraid I'd damage the sole trying...

Re: Hike to LLBox from Boulder Canyon and back to Cavalry

I've done LaBarge out to Cavalry a couple times and enjoy most of it. The box is awesome and hiking through LaBarge is great for a while but there are some pretty thick sections that are a total pain in the pumpkin to get through depending on how much water there is. If you do it, though, go before...

Hey Liz, weren't we all talking about a backpack trip up there this summer anyway???? You were going to look into permits.

Re: Snow Talk: 2012. The Great White Coming!

We haven't had any really good rain since the beginning of December. The problem is the temperature now, 78. Everything is thinking that it is Spring now and starting to leaf out and bloom. We get a good cold snap and it's all gone and if we don't get some more rain before March, it's going to be an...

Re: Found - 2 Dogs Near Queen Valley

Craig's list is the best place to advertise, since Pets 911 isn't doing it anymore. You might also find out who the nearest Vet offices are in that area and post a bulletin in those offices as well. Also if there are any places to post a bulletin near the major intersections up there, like Queen Val...

Re: NewB hydration question

I agree w/AZbackpacker - a jansport backpack and water bottles is cheap and easy. It will work until you finally get sick of having to take off your pack to get a drink. While I agree with these guys about using just an old backpack and water bottles to a certain extent because it's cheap and I did...

Re: Moving to Casa Grande/Phoenix/Kayenta/Anywhere

Well, I guess this means that I'll have to plan a short trip up there this summer so you can show me your neck of the woods... :) I've been to Lee's Ferry numerous times fishing, but have never been to Page/Powell area and have only driven through the North Kaibab area on the way to Utah....

So glad to hear he's home and doing well. And he will do much better if someone plays the "bad guy" and pushes him. Good for you Bob. Just don't come home from your "hike" and tell us that you pushed that poor guy up Picketpost.... Here's hoping things keep getting brighter and brighter....

Actually they are not true "Monitors". They are called Tegus. They are native to South America, but are now in the USA.

That is such great news Bob! I'm sure it's going to be a big relief to have him home. Just goes to show what hard work and support can do in such a short time! Pretty soon, you'll be having to hold him back just to allow time for the healing process to be complete....Best wishes to you, RJ, and the ...

Re: Headlamp Advice

Thanks for all of the advice on this thread, I have gained lots of information from it and will come back to it in the future. It's kinda funny how it worked out. My sister gave me this cheap little plastic flashlight for Xmas, probably from Walgreens and under 5.00. But it's more than I had, and it...

Re: Boot Repair

@Al_HikesAZ @Sun Ray Actually the point of purchase is the hard part. I bought these boots on Sale, (buy one pair, get one pair 50% off) about 8 years ago when I was using them for utility locating. I just never got around to using the second pair more than once or twice until this last fall becaus...

Boot Repair

I have a pair of Merrell Gortex Boots with a Vibram Sole. They were practically brand new last fall when I started using them in earnest. I've done about 20 hikes with them and a couple of hikes ago I noticed that the sole is completely separating from the boot itself, on both boots. The sole is in ...

Re: 2012 Hazolutions

We'd recommend a 12-step program but for a hiking group, that doesn't seem like enough... Ya, I tried that remedy already. 1,450 steps to Flatiron with quick graduation to each next level and it didn't even begin to make a dent in curing the Addiction. I guess someday I'll have to do the GC and sea...

Yep, I have a few Hazolutions for 2012... 4. Exceed my Mileage and Elevation from this year. (That won't be hard, I didn't start until September) :D 5. Do more 3.5 and start doing some 4.0 Hikes... DONE! Already blew 2011 away and January's not even over yet! :y: It's official, I am an ADDI...
