Re: Bear bagging

I use a slightly different strategy for bear bagging. I make several non lethal bear traps and then capture and bag all bears within a ten mile radius of my camp, I hang the bears for the night, so they can’t get into my food and then release them the next morning...

Re: 3 day backpack from Miles Ranch - loop preferred

@Mr_Squishy Although there is a chance for a little war somewhere along Frog Tanks, I would fill up at Rogers Trough on your first day and then be somewhat prepared to not find any water until you get back into the Reavis Ranch area on day two (if sticking to the loop in the book you described) Fig...

Re: Reliable water Snake-Kanab Crk?

@Hippy @nonot Table Rock Spring is actually reliable, just not at location marked on map, at that location is a dilapidated spring box/trough, the more robust source and trough can be found further up canyon, I did not post route because of some ruins I visited in area, PM for more details @Hippy ,...

Re: Cherry Creek Rd FR 203

@Oregon_Hiker I saw a picture of someone going around it from about three months ago now. Someone came out and just dug into the bank on the side of the boulder not bordering the drop off and made more room to pass there, it looks like machinery was used. I guess moving the boulder was out of the q...

Re: Pogo pack exoskeleton lightens your load

@chumley Interesting...the Army/military has been working on this for awhile too, mainly in a response to the fact that the mountains in Afghanistan were breaking off soldiers, due to the excessive combat loads...In fact, a few soldiers in our unit took part in a testing at Yuma Proving Grounds.. T...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

@chumley Seems you are not the only one wondering about this swing and a miss by the weathermen... The National Weather Service is denying accusations it knowingly misled the public with its blizzard forecasts this week. On Monday, before the storm hit the East Coast, the agency forecasted up to a ...

Re: 5-day backpack in the Superstitions

@gardel As for a Plan B, any suggestions? And any guidance on what counts as hot? I would just disregard that warning about heat, you are going at the end of March, average day time highs are mid 70s and just below 50s at night. You are already going pretty far east as it is, Rogers Trough TH is at...
