Re: Reavis Ranch 2.0: No Gimpy Hippies!

Ok so here are my final plans for the Reavis event. First I am very c'est la vie when it comes to hiking and sometimes I make my final choices on drive to TH, so I apologize in advance. I do plan to take the full-day off on Friday, its my last free weekend before I start coaching, so want to really ...

Re: Reavis Ranch 2.0: No Gimpy Hippies!

I am leaning more toward taking whole day off work, so I would be open, to that..find out when rest of group is planning on meeting at TH, I plan to go Rogers Trough, but I am thinking about being silly and taking West Pinto via Fire line and avoiding the boy scouts and day hikers along Reavis trail...

Re: Hiking Arizona

Ok so Chums def. provided probably all you need, but I purchased the Garmi Southwest Topo 24K map, it has done me well. Dont buy at REI, can get them a little cheaper just about everywhere else.

Re: Rogers Trough to Reavis

@Outdoor Lover It ended up being real short notice for me to, got an itch because someone from HAZ gave me some great details about a set of ruins in area, but needed an extra day to get in so left Friday after work..made it to Reavis Valley just before 1 am..and had a pretty intense weekend to say...

Re: Reavis Ranch 2.0: No Gimpy Hippies!

So I checked interested on hike, because I will be in area anyways and wouldn't mind meeting some cool hikers..but not really in any HAZ loops, so will probably be doing my own thing, However, I am totally for giving people rides and helping out fellow hikers. I have 4wd and plenty of room..The only...

Re: Unknown Trail between Peters & Hoolie Bacon

@CannondaleKid Im telling you man, that book is the Bible of the Supers, I have Eastern and Western editions, also remember the authors tell you they are usually deliberately vague on some stuff to keep them protected from nubies and unethical people, so there is usually more to find in these areas...

Re: Unknown Trail between Peters & Hoolie Bacon

oh yeah the Horse Camp Trail Yes you are right by the way... Hey was also going to talk to you about that Lower Campaign Spring name..so I guess Lower Campaign is a newer name for that spring along Fire-LIne that is in a little disrepair. The original name was Black Jack, according to Jack and Eliz...

Re: Unknown Trail between Peters & Hoolie Bacon

I have taken that trail on a few occasions, Check out Jack Carlson's guide to Supers...It basically goes from near Horse Camp Basin to Peter's trail just before the saddle where Peter's trail drops down into Canyon and then back up to Mesa. It is a great shortcut if you are looking to cut over from ...

Re: Government Shutdown - Supes OK?

@hippiepunkpirate I mean honestly your wife does bring up some good points, and I have been to third world countries around world where they don't have resources to preserve their national treasures, so I get it...I guess just the whole idea of closing "nature" just irks me, and you are so right, i...

Re: Government Shutdown - Supes OK?

Does anyone see the irony in the fact that we are having to discuss whether a national park is closed....I mean really so the forest is closed? Has anyone notified the wildlife of the closures? Is this what Teddy Roosevelt envisioned when he helped kick-start our national parks? Does Old Faithful st...

Re: Safety Changes For 'The Wave'

@toddak 4) close the trail on days of extreme heat, with a ranger at the trail head for enforcement Great ideas if you are running a theme park, but what happens when you plan all year to go, and you get there...and a ranger tells you that it is unsafe to hike because it is 101 degrees...and the pa...

Re: Partner for Superstition Hikes

Why wait till after Monsoons? Other than winter this is one of best times to hike Sups in my opinion...spent four nights in Sups over last couple weekends this is time to go man...fair amount of water in some washes, and even some pretty decent swim holes, (DISCLAIMER: EVAPORATES QUICK ONLY COUNT ON...
