Medical Question- Valley Fever

I have been hit hard this week with medical news. 4 big items have hit me at once. One of them is Valley Fever. I know nothing about this- scheduled for specialist, etc, but I want to start the AZT nobo in March. I know right now I am just wiped out, very tired. Not breathing very well. Can I kick t...

Re: Planning to Hike the AZT in 2016- Help Please

Buy the Arizona Trail map app - find the link on the AZT web page. $9.99 and well worth it as another source, assuming that you will have a smart phone with you on the trail. But - maps - never leave home without them! Feb. may be a tad early - in the first 10 miles you have to get up and over Mill...

Re: Planning to Hike the AZT in 2016- Help Please

I live in Florence, not far from PicketPost TH. I have actually been thinking about hiking from Mexico up to PicketPost starting early as possible from Mexico, then take a week off at home, then have someone drive me up to the end point on the Utah border and hike sobo back to PicketPost and end the...

Re: Planning to Hike the AZT in 2016- Help Please

Rcorfman, I appreciate the response. The AZT shouldn't be that much more challenging than the CDT in NM- I am hoping. I have a Garmin eTrex 30 and I believe it has enough memory to load the entire AZT into it. I just need to know where I can do that. I am not a techie type guy and have entered route...

Re: Superstitions Backpack, 11/15-11/19

Another interesting hike is to go in at Miles TH up the Pinto Crk trail to the Champaign Tr and then over to Reevis ranch and then to Roger's Trough and then back to Miles TH by the Pinto Crk trail. Usually 3 nights/4 days. Can then go up to Round Top (Circle top?) and see the indian ruins of the Fi...

Planning to Hike the AZT in 2016- Help Please

I would like to chat with someone who has hiked the entire AZT nobo. I am planning on starting on the AZT as early in 2016 as possible. I have the guide books. Maps are on backorder. I have questions like, can I have the entire AZT loaded into my GPS? Water challenges- do I have to really do the tra...

Re: Superstitions Backpack, 11/15-11/19

Big Load, this is RedDoug, Trew on this site. We did Picket Post together. I have some experience in the Superstitions. And I am always available if you need or want company. Nice hike is from First Water TH down to Picketpost. That is the first section of the Grand Enchantment trail. I am always lo...

FS 287A to Miles Trailhead - Superstitions

On Tuesday, Jan 28, I drove FS 287 into Miles TH to check water in Pinto Creek. I drove a 2000 Chevy Venture Van- no problem getting in an out. No water flowing in Pinto Creek. Spring just east of Miles TH did have water. This is my first post on HikeArizona. I am now officially part of the group!!
