Re: Annoying Garmin problem

I have a Garmin 64s and there is a limit on the number of tracks that I can have on my device -- I believe that the limit is 100 I once had the same problem that you are having: I would copy tracks from my desktop to my device (I always use basecamp). I never had any problems accessing a track on my...

Re: Western Drought

The down side is that Colorado River water is apparently super muddy right now. true...here is what the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon looks like right now: https://hikearizona.com/dex2/igallery/image_page.php?id=5543 Last year at this time it looked like this: https://hikearizona.com/dex2/igal...

Re: Westward Arch, Goldfields

I spoke with John at the Tonto Mesa District Office who confirmed that closure 12-17-291 is still in effect and being in the two areas outlined in the map is prohited during the given dates of December 1 through June 30. Do you know if the use trail going up Gateway Canyon is in the closure area? I...

Re: Westward Arch, Goldfields

@joebartels yes it was set to expire on Feb 10, 2019 instead of the end of February. my bad

I'd be curious to know whether or not they renewed the closure order...it might just be an oversight on their part that the website has not been updated

Re: Westward Arch, Goldfields

@hikerdw Is there a website link to that map? I looked at the Tonto National Forest website and found a link to a closure order in the Bulldog cliffs area, which expired at the end of Feb. 2019: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd532582.pdf It does look like Gateway Canyon is eith...

Re: Superstitions in a Winter Storm

Has anyone heard how much snow the Supes got at around the 4,000' level -- say at Malapais Mtn. or Bluff Springs Mtn?

Re: Goldfield Mountains Hikes not found

@Mr_Squishy With all due respect to Ted Tenny, does the fact that he wrote a book about hiking in the Goldfields make him the "Godfather of the Goldfields"? I would disagree that there aren't many of Tenny's hikes described on HAZ: examples of HAZ hikes that correspond to Tenny's book include the P...

Re: Bluff Spring Mtn Summit - Western Superstitions

I'm thinking about attempting an out-n-back hike (not a loop) from the Peralta TH to one of the two summits, either to Peak 4152 or to Peak 4041 via this posted "on trail / off trail" Gps Route--> [ Bluff Spring Mtn Summit :: map ] . the link that you posted does not work for me; I get this error m...

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings

I saw a roadrunner and some doves and gambel's quail in my backyard the other day...the doves/quail seemed unconcerned about the presence of the roadrunner, so I guess that roadrunners don't eat doves/quail

Re: First timer visiting AZ for a long week

@northwoodshiker Sedona and the Supes are good choices, although as was mentioned above Sedona MIGHT be cold in early March...personally, I would skip the Petrified Forest...if you are looking for other options not too far from Phoenix, you'd probably like the Mazatzals and the Mogollon Rim country...

Re: 2019 Hazolutions

I normally don't make Hazolutions: in 2018 the only one that I had was to hike Thompson Peak once during the year, and I met this resolution with about 11 hours left in the year...for 2019: hike 1,200 miles with an AEG of 300K feet; do 4 or 5 more 14ers in CO; and do Rim-cubed over 2 days...other th...

Re: Secret canyon TH

Anyone with recent info on the driving conditions to get to secret canyon TH in Sedona? It’s been a few years since I ventured down dry creek/vultee arch rd. to Devils Bridge. I have hiked a couple of times this fall on Dry Creek Rd from the Brins Mesa TH to the Vultee Arch TH, and I think that you...
