Re: 2018 Fire Season

I looked on the websites for both nations, where did you find the closure postings? Re: Humphreys Acclimation

Where in Tennessee does your friend live? If it's the eastern side and they hike around the Smokies, I'd say you're probably ok on altitude Well over 99% of the people in Tennessee live in elevations less than 2,000'...here is a list of the 20 towns with the highest elevations-- most of these are i...

Re: favorite az hike

Outside of the Grand Canyon, my favorite would be the East Baldy Trail/West Baldy Trail Loop...but Mount Wrightson, Wilson Mountain in Sedona, and the Superstition Ridgeline aren't too far behind

Re: 2018 Fire Season

Hopefully there will be a few inches of rain in Flagstaff this weekend -- it would be nice to be able to go hiking there on some of the trails that are currently closed!

Re: Mount baldy loop camping spots and water sources

Thing to do is keep calling the ranger district office to inquire when the trail crew will be clearing the trails. That serves to get the message out that the public is paying attention. I called the Springerville Ranger District last week and they told me that they would be clearing the Baldy Trai...

Re: Mount baldy loop camping spots and water sources

@DixieFlyer Yesterday I counted right at 100 downed trees on the West Baldy trail that I had to go over or under. I hiked West Baldy 3 weeks ago, and there were more downed trails this time. I was glad that I hiked up the East Baldy Trail and down the West Baldy Trail. In addition to dealing with tw...

Re: Mount baldy loop camping spots and water sources

I hiked up and down the East Baldy trail today and counted 50 downed trees over the trail...some of them were easy to get over, and it wasn't too bad overall...tomorrow I am going up east Baldy and down West Baldy, and I imagine that West Baldy will be worse

Re: 2018 Fire Restrictions

It is a wonder that the whole state isn't on fire...I was hiking up the East Baldy trail today and some f***tard that I was passing asked me if I had a light so he could smoke a cigarette...where do these dumba$$es come from? I can't remember exactly what I told him, but he got the idea that it woul...

It's interesting that the ASNF has not closed the East and West Baldy trails, nor the Escudilla National Trail...or at least I don't think that they have after looking at the maps

Re: 2018 Fire Restrictions

Neither Apache-Sitgreaves nor Coronado have announced closures _yet_, but apparently A-S has committed to performing closures. Chums suspects it will be related to closing off all areas near the rim road, which I would agree is the most likely closure Yeah, I am surprised that the ASNF has not anno...

Re: 2018 Fire Restrictions

@friendofThundergod you miss my point: I applaud them from being proactive in trying to prevent fires. My issue not with the closures; rather it is that their websites are full of broken links, so they are not being effective in providing information as to what is closed. That is not something that...

No I have never been to the Alma Grill, but speaking of authentic New Mexico cuisine, I recommend Jerry's Cafe in Gallup -- I always stop there when passing thru Gallup.

@Grasshopper
A couple of months ago I stopped at Guayo's el Rey in Miami, and I thought that the food was very good...the only negative was that they only had bottled beer, i.e., no draft beer
