Re: Mindless chit chat

@SuperstitionGuy :-k Interstate routes are designated by one- or two-digit numbers. Routes with odd numbers run north and south, while even numbered run east and west . For north-south routes, the lowest numbers begin in the west, while the lowest numbered east-west routes are in the south. By this...

Since a weed is pretty much any plant that grows somewhere we don't want it to, all wildflowers can be considered weeds. Or not.

With the first day of autumn just 7 days away, it's beginning to look like the monsoon will try to give the Arizona deserts one last gasp of storm activity with an assist from Nora. If any of this comes together, a few more rainfall records may be broken.

This is what we're discussing, right? Somehow there are thousands of elk, a healthy population of bear, deer, pronghorn, etc. that have seemed to find a way to survive (thrive?) between the rim and I-40, even during dry years.

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings

@nonot
Does SRP ever shut off the downstream flow into ECC from Cragin? Even earlier this summer with the water level as low as I can ever remember, there was still outflow going downstream. (A year or two ago they shut it off temporarily for pump maintenance as I recall, but not due to drought).

Re: Baker Project

I find it odd that none of the treatment area is actually in the ECC / Cragin watershed. :-k

Update: looks like there is a sliver that would drain into Cienega Draw along 300 on the northeast flank. The rest drains into Pine and Webber Creeks before making their way to the valley.

Zion NP proposes $9 lottery/permit for Angels Landing

Angels Landing is a one-half mile (0.5-mile) chained trail beginning at Scout Lookout and is a highly sought after hike at ZION with more than 300,000 visitors making the ascent in 2019. Growth has continued rapidly in 2021 and increasing park popularity has led to intense crowding and congestion a...

@LindaAnn Unfortunately, once you get your permanent plate, you'll realize that this particular model of frame is against the law (not HAZ's fault, just the vendor that makes them not being in compliance). Re: Bears In The News

@AugustWest
I will say this ... a firearm has far greater range than bear spray does. But that may also encourage unnecessary discharge during a bluff charge that was never going to result in an incident. But there's no way to know the prospective outcome when looking back on an incident report.

Re: US60 work between Superior and Miami

@SuperstitionGuy It takes 40 extra minutes to drive the 177-77 route from Superior to Globe through Winkleman. They could make SR 88 a paved, two-lane road and it would still take 2 hours to drive. It was never, and will never, be worth considering as a viable alternative route to anywhere except m...
