Re: Bears In The News

@Pivo
I wonder if there are any studies that compare the effectiveness of humans avoiding bear incidents with bear spray vs firearms. One of our trusty peer-reviewed science journal readers must be able to find this?

Re: US60 work between Superior and Miami

Flooding has closed US 60 in both directions between Superior and Miami. Local media aerial video makes it appear that Bloody Tanks Wash just west of Miami has flashed. Several sections of roadway have been eroded from below with undercut pavement and overhanging guardrails. I would expect this to r...

Re: Bears In The News

@Pivo Thanks for sharing. I appreciate when the media reports on the full result of the investigation rather than letting the initial event serve as a clickbait headline, only to disappear without more information or followup. While there are still some unanswered questions about this one, it seems...

@sneakySASQUATCH
you make it seem like Colorado is immune to forest fires or decades of mismanagement? Send me a message from your drive through glenwood canyon in the next few months to reiterate the point :lol:

@azbackpackr It’s not clear from what I’ve read. If not specifically mentioned here, perhaps the hope is that it was saved?

Re: LCR Big Canyon pumped hydro project

@RedRoxx44 Contrary to popular belief, Lake Powell was not the result of negotiations over the controversial damming of the Green River within Dinosaur National Monument at Echo Park; the Echo Park Dam proposal was abandoned due to nationwide citizen pressure on Congress to do so https://www.usbr.g...

Re: Mindless chit chat

The drought is often said to have persisted for decades now, and we may in fact be in a "megadrought". But regardless, after a couple of inches of rain it only took two weeks to change everything. Praise be to Cthulhu!

I always thought it was just a developer ploy that ends with "See!? A tram isn't so bad after all!"

Re: FR 487

@friendofThundergod They posted the following publicly on their facebooks. The wash out on Road 487, below Workman Creek Falls, has caused erosion around the bridge area. The erosion has passed some of the road barriers, causing a safety concern, the engineering staff have tried several fixes to th...

Re: Mindless chit chat

NWS Phx published a review of last month's anomalous rain event across the state. It's 100% nerdy stuff that probably only Jim will be interested in. But just in case there's a silent lurker out there who also appreciates such things, here's the link: https://www.weather.gov/psr/StormReportfor2126Ju...

Speaking of Tonto ... add the narrows to that list of locals creating issues that the FS can't (or won't) deal with.

Re: 2021 Fire Season

I can't really tell by looking at the updated closure order, but it looks like Picketpost might be open. Picketpost was not restricted even under the former closure order (https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd923425.pdf) which only covered area east of the 177. The updated closure m...

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

FWIW, though this may have escaped some here, it is possible to be BOTH sympathetic to first responders injured in the line of duty AND ALSO support fact-based policies that will actually help reduce danger and limit potential injury to these valued community servants in the future. As opposed to th...
