Re: The Free Climb King

@outdoor_lover
I can't speak to the extreme type of stuff like this video, but my experience with my normal-people stuff is either yes or, more frequently, there will be another person/team that climbed traditionally up top with ropes that they can then use to come on down.

Agree with Nonot but if the weekend is a must, try going around lunch time; 12-1 or so. I've found that in many busy places like that, it's a prime time as people who got the morning start are heading out at that time. Obviously not going to guarantee anything but greatly increases the odds at least

Re: Tent Zipper Replacement?

Rainypass Repair is great for this sort of thing but to the point previously made, not sure the cost would be worth it. Never hurts to check, of course. They're who REI recommends and I've used them before (albeit for washing my quilts, not repair)

Just checked and it's the same. Interestingly have this quote on their page, "...So while we no longer offer full service guided trips..." :D

Re: Arizona man convicted of illegal backcountry guide operations

@azbackpackr TBH, sounds like he kind of did for a while and then they just politely told him to stop. Even after that, there's no mention of a fine. Depending on court fees/lawyer fees, might have still come out ahead? "Just Roughin' It," that was forging info That the same company locate...

That story just kept giving for such a short one! Drops the phone... Doesn't just reach in but MacGuyvers some support system? Support system fails... Reaches the phone to call it in (probably speaker phone? Imagine the gurgle sounds on the other side...). Tyvek suit they had laying around or just c...

Ellison Creek @ Highline water avail?

Hiking the highline shortly and the only spot I have a question about on water is the stretch between the hatchery and Bonita. It'd be nice to not have to carry the 11-12 miles worth of water and Ellison is about halfway. Water reports are a little sporadic on that one and my guess is that it's flow...

Re: Deer Creek Trail #45, AZ : Reliable water from the top down.

Second nonot; I think you'll hit the creek a little over a mile if you're starting from the Mt Peeley TH and, like he said, if you don't see if, it'll pop back above ground before too long. Right now, though, it's mostly above ground

Deer Creek was running nicely a couple of weeks ago and that should still be the case. Water shouldn't be an issue.

Re: NoBo or SoBo?

Do it SOBO in the fall, download FarOut to keep up to date with water recommendations. Otherwise, if you're new to long distance backpacking, I guess I'd suggest looking at a variety of youtube channels to understand that you don't need the kitchen sink and to get exposure. For the AZT, you could ch...

Re: SOBO North Rim but realized it's closed...

There's definitely still snow and postholing in sections there; people who have finished their NOBO in the last few days are typically roadwalking for a bit to avoid the worst it seems. In two weeks, there should be a lot less I would expect but, either way, you'll have options and the knowledge in ...

Subie gang checking in. Went up to Rogers Trough yesterday and had no issues. They even fixed the spot before the 172 split that I had a little bit of an issue with last time. Moderate clearance is needed for the last half mile or; probably don't need 4wd/AWD but wouldn't hurt, to repeat what nonot ...

Re: Hiking with kids

Shoshone Point wouldn't be an issue at all; easy peasy. Ooh ahh will be doable, too, easier for the older than the younger and it'll tire them out a bit, but it's not bad; kids do it all the time.

Re: Cave Creek Trail / Seven Springs Area

To piggy back on this; if you want to hike in from the area near seven springs, where's a good place to park and do you need a tonto pass if you're not in one of the campground areas? The sat maps aren't quite clear as there are various structures nearby that I'm not certain are private property or ...

@LosDosSloFolks Nah, I don't see it as an attack. Your response is/was perfectly reasonable and fair. You're absolutely right that if you look at the 2 year/3 year/recent year, it's up. But if you look at the price versus 12 years ago... it's low. And I that's really the point I'm getting at: we co...
