Re: $8+ gas by June?

@LosDosSloFolks I feel like you're trying to say I'm wrong but what that chart shows is that in the last 20 years or so, half were below above this, half was above, so I stand by my statement. It also ignores the simple fact that I stated earlier: why is gas the one thing that is expected to stay t...

Re: $8+ gas by June?

The most extreme comparisons are not necessary to illustrate the increase, which is clear and obvious to everybody without the exaggerations. Well. Look at the last 15 years of data and you see examples where the price rises a bunch, the lowers a bunch. 2.50-2.75 seems to be the "market rate&q...

@big_load
Yeh, I've definitely seen shortages of them in some places I've traveled to but, for some reason, seems like it never hit us here (or, at least, that I noticed)

Went to REI yesterday in Paradise Valley and picked up a couple smaller canisters and they had plenty of those and the bigger ones as well. Honestly haven't seen an outage there in the last two years, only sometimes a little less, so you're pretty safe

Honestly, as of a few weeks ago, that's the smoothest and and nicest part of that road by far. If you make it to the split, the woodbury side is pretty standard hard pack for the most part and nice

Water in Rogers Canyon

Hey gang, I don't see a ton of reports for the Rogers Canyon/Angel Basin/Frog Tanks area and I plan on backpacking that area this week potentially. Has anyone been in that area recently that could give an update on any of the springs or if there's water in Roger's Creek?

@chumley I *am* an engineer, mechanical and electrical but with some civil background and a good family friend owns a civil engineering firm responsible for many ongoing state projects. While it's impossible to get a full beta, I've hiked a good portion of it and everything you said is pretty accur...

Re: electrolytes question

I second it being good and effective. Just a bit on the pricey side for what it is, so I tend to save it for backpacking vs day hiking.

Re: $5+ gas by June?

One thing that's clearly missing in your budgetary assessment is the lack of consideration of the mental, physical, psychological, and of course the monetary value associated with bitching, complaining, and whining about it. Trust me, I know! I knew my world class analysis was missing *something*. ...

What draws you to North Dakota? I spent more than a couple of years there and while it has it's... quirks... not much of a destination. South Dakota/Montana are both pretty awesome from an outdoors perspective, though. The badlands is a really cool spot for hiking/backpacking, in particular.

Re: $5+ gas by June?

Gas prices are funny. Since 2005 it's "normalized" at 2.50 and then goes up and down from there, spiking during the financial crisis period. That was 17 years ago, although there was obviously a big jump in the 09 financial crisis that lasted roughly 4 years. I can't think of many things t...

Re: Reavis Ranch Alternative?

@rickcmarsh Yep! You can definitely make it work. There are tons of trees and they'd all sturdy. You might have to get a little creative and you likely won't see a spot that looks "established" for hammocking, but the trees will definitely work and there are plenty. May not get the "...

@Jim_H I make what I call "Mother-In-Law Tacos" that are are basically "gourmet" double deckers occasionally. My wife hates them but they're basically my favorite guilty pleasure. El Paso kit with ground bison and then a soft shell tortilla with the refried beans and hard shell ...

@ShatteredArm Side note, you seem to have some experience here. I’ve kind of wanted to backpack the BCT but the water situation has kept me away because it seems like the agua fria crossings can’t be trusted to have water. That sound accurate in your experience? Bikepacking you get it done quicker ...

@Mountain_Rat You're welcome. Didn't think you needed it but if you appreciate it, glad to give it. @Mountain_Rat So, to be clear, you're resorting to the typical ad hominem attacks, trying to redefine words (travel visa) and then fading into the black because you're wrong. It's fine, but it'd be a better look to just... not reply. Wikipedia isn't law school, the last time I checked, although it ...

@Mountain_Rat "HAZ Forum Guidelines 1) Support your opinion with facts. " You're wrong. Simple as that. They are still not lawfully able to gain employment with some rare exceptions. Also, your claim to a "travel visa" is just weird. I suppose if I'm being generous, you mean the...
