They're always annoying someone, if they're in a Wilderness.

Re: Social Media Promoting Our "Hidden" Hikes

I find it ironic when people use a website as a resource to determine where they will hike, but then judge others who do the same thing. It doesn't matter if the source of your hiking desires is HAZ, Instagram, 14ers, or LOJ. Most peak-baggers aren't poring over topo maps and making spreadsheets at...

Re: Social Media Promoting Our "Hidden" Hikes

Do we have a responsibility to warn people about going to certain locales Who is "we"? I guess we don't. Just going to keep my mouth shut and let nature take it's course. Warning people about inherent dangers exceeding their abilities and taxing SAR staff resources is not part of the Bro Bible, @Sp...

Re: Mount Shuksan(WA)

Mt. Shuksan is not the easiest mountain to climb especially without ice experience. As usual, the skills include self-arrest and being able to read snow-ice conditions. It seems to me, having climbed it two times, climbing it without some experience, is not a good idea. Yes, I read more about it an...

Re: Social Media Promoting Our "Hidden" Hikes

I don't know that the GC corridor or Four Peaks (visible from nearly everywhere in the area) are great examples of "hidden" hikes, but I think social media has obviously put out the word on some great spots. Battleship in the Supes would be a good example. I've been told that one is my fault....

Re: Social Media Promoting Our "Hidden" Hikes

I personally have chosen not to go to Havasupai because of the horses. I've wanted to ask all of these folks flocking there if they give a damn about the treatment of the animals that are hauling their gear there (I'm referring to the people's pics I see walking next to the horses and mules not nece...

Mount Shuksan(WA)

Have any of you ever climbed Mt. Shuksan? I have a chance to go on a trip next June there, but admittedly I don't have any ice experience. I was just wondering how much 'skills' you might actually need for this peak. The trip leader said it is much easier than Rainier. I of course can read about it ...

Re: R2R and R2R2R New Fastest Known Time

As I approach the mid-century mark I have great appreciation for FKT's but at the same time am starting to realize just how much I've missed in the past few years by being so focused on completing a hike in the shortest amount of time possible. I've even started staying on summits longer than 30 se...

Re: Steepest hike in Az?

I would guess the steepest hikes in Arizona are probably hikes out of canyons-- not hikes up peaks. So what I meant was and I'm sure that there are WAY steeper hikes but say comparing Black Mtn in Cave Creek to say Piestewa. I thought Black Mountain was pretty darn steep for an urban 'trail' etc. t...

Re: Steepest hike in Az?

You can use listofjohn (pay $ite) to calculate the steepest actual peaks themselves. I think Spider Rock is ranked #1, LOL. However, to me, there is a distinction between steepest 'hike' and steepest climb. I'd be interested in what people's thoughts are on the steepest hike with an actual walkable ...

At the risk of ignorance, is it even needed? What's it intended to relieve traffic from? I-10? Phoenix has the best traffic I've ever seen in a city this large.
