Wow, so sad. I can see how that could happen - the top portions of that trail are pretty exposed.
I live near the fire station, and heard lots of sirens ... always hope it's not that.

Grand Canyon, Ariz. - A woman who died in a fall from the South Rim's Grandview Trail in Grand Canyon National Park has been identified as 68-year old Rosa Torres Rios of Nogales, Arizona.

On July, 19 at approximately, 1:20 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report that a woman had fallen over the edge at Grandview Point and that she was not responding to people calling down to her. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders determined that Rios had actually fallen from the Grandview Trail which departs from Grandview Point. Rios was found approximately 300 feet below where she fell with no pulse. Rescue personnel attempted CPR; however, their life-saving efforts proved unsuccessful.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
