FR 83

Post by friendofThundergod »

Anyone ever make it to the Cottonwood TH, from FR 83 I believe..I know the Frazer trail head is real accessible, however, I think Dave told me that one needs a pretty high clearance vehicle to make it all the way to the actual Cottonwood TH, its the one right after Two Bar Ridge TH..in that kind of no man's area of the north west Supes..For some reason I want to say Cannondale Kid has done? anyone know how close you can actually get to TH before it gets real nasty??

will be in area Sunday, want to do a little day-hike there after my Ancha weekend..thanks..

It's been a year or two since I have driven it.
If memory serves there is just one 'crux' section - a loose, off camber hill to climb (heading IN from the highway) - the rest is generally 2WD H/C. That hill is about .7 to .8 back from the southern T/H.

How did you find the condition(s)?

@hikeaz

Typical AZ FR, high clearance and 4wd, but nothing too crazy, I parked below final hill/approach, but I think I could have made no problem...In fact, probably high clearance enough, 4wd may not even be necessary, you will see the obvious spot I parked, near a trough which will be on your right hand side, I just didn't think the 3 tenths of a mile was worth potential damage to vehicle...first two photos will give you a good idea of road conditions, pretty tame by some standard...
