Volunteer Driver for Shuttle Service

Post by SuperstitionGuy » Oct 04 2012 4:37 pm

Occasionally there has been a request on HAZ for someone to assist in a car shuttle and or comments on HAZ about some one assisting with a car shuttle.

Having just returned to Arizona after being out of State and country for a number of years, being retired and somewhat limited due to a bad knee preventing me from participating on serious hiking and backpacking trips, I occasionaly would not mind assisting others in this way.

Perhaps others on this forum also would be willing to perform this volunteer service and maybe Joe B. can create a forum on HAZ to help faciliate such a volunteer service as well. Is there any interest, comments or sugggestions regarding this or am I :bdh: ?

I would definitely take advantage of a shuttle if one were available. I'd volunteer if were around more, which I hope will happen before I get composted.

What a great idea, put me down for provider and consumer.

Like Superstition Guy, I too am retired and have provided a shuttle service in the past. My credentials include Tibber and Trekkin Gecko. :D

If someone is in need of a Superstition Mountain area shuttle service, drop me a PM and I'll try to accommodate you. Keeping in mind that my shuttle vehicle will probably be a Ranger pickup and is limited to the number of hikers (and gear) that I can pack inside (I may be able to talk my wife out of her Explorer if the need arises).

I would prefer to keep my shuttles within the Superstition Mountain Wilderness Region from Superior area to Tortilla Flats area. I would ask only for assistance on the cost of fuel.
On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.

And if anyone wants to be driven as far out in the boonies as possible in 4-wheeling style and be left out there to test their survival skills I'm up for that. I'm retired but Tracey's still punching a clock so I'm more open to weekdays.

I've been a "trail angel" for many a hike and was happy to provide shuttle service....especially on those LONG thru hikes where it saves an extra 2 hours of driving after an arduous hike. Even if I did have to pt someone in the cargo area (but I had lots of blankets for cushioning).

Most of the time I just watch the forums and if I see something I can help out with I just chime in.

With ten likes and a few others commenting on this subject there appears to be some interest. Therefore what is the best way to list who and to what extent they are willing to participate.

For example I have a 2011 7 passenger van that does not like Forest Service roads but do have a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara but it holds very few persons. I live in Apache Junction and can best serve the Superstition Wilderness and nearby areas. Weekdays are best for me with Sunday being the most difficult time to be available.

I can help shuttle your vehicle or vehicles for point A to B hikes or backpacks along with help from others. I can also meet individuals or groups for resupply if your doing a long multi day trek.

Years ago I had to hitch hike to and from many of my treks but these days are different and drivers are more reluctant to pick up strangers along our highways and byways. However communications are much improved with cell phones, GPS units and now SPOT.

Any suggestions out there?

@SuperstitionGuy

2. What vehicle you have and the number of hikers (with gear) you can transport.
3. Roads or terrain your vehicle can handle.
4. How to get in contact with you (eg: PM, email, phone, etc).
5. When you are available/not available.
6. Reimbursement (if any).

HIKER(S):

1. What area are you going to hike.
2. Day, time and place that you will meet.
3. Specify if this is the start of the hike or the finish.
4. If you are part of a group or a single hiker.
5. How to get in contact with you.
6. A detailed description of your hike to include when you are expected to finish.

I think that this is a great idea!!!! Me and two of my friends are looking for a safe place to park our car and possibly get a short shuttle ride to the trail. Does anyone know of a safe place to park our car in Superior AZ? We will be in AZ Wednesday January 22 and we plan on hiking passages16-21 on the AZT. If there is anyone that has a little free time and could help us out that would be great. Send me a PM and let me know Thanks!
