Can you choose which layer will cache with "follow" on Route Scout?

No due to licensing/usage issues as RS is 100% free & ad free. Perhaps a future option for members that participate.

FWIW, Route Scout is a useful enough app that I would be perfectly ok with paying real cash money via an in-app purchase for a "pro" or "premium" upgrade that unlocks features like that. I have no idea what's a reasonable/required amount for that kind of thing. $4.99? $9.99? $999.99? :scared:

Hello!

I have been using RS for a while and I really enjoy it. However, it is not accurately recording my distance - it typically indicates that I have gone further than I truly have (I have been using both RS and another app, as well as comparing to my hiking partners to get the most accurate distances possible). What I end up with is two different distances in two different apps - and usually, it's RS that is most off from my other app as well as my hiking partner(s). I thought it may be my phone, but the fact that the two apps record vastly different distances makes me think it could be RS.

Is this something that has been reported by others? I have looked through the forum and found some information about how to prevent RS from dropping GPS coverage when it's not in the foreground (great info!), but I didn't come across anything related to this issue.

Thoughts?

@Lumberjill
Can your other app export a gpx for the recorded track? It would be interesting to view the RS track together with the other one.

@chumley - that's a great idea! I have a pretty good example of what I'm seeing from an attempt to summit Brown's Peak earlier this year (we didn't quite make it on the account of one person in our group's fear of heights). I added them both to this map, where the red track is from another app, and the blue is from RS.

http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/display/20 ... 6-map.html

Other app indicated 4.90 miles, RS indicated 5.37 miles.

4.1.0
- finally fixed a major bug that occurred after previewing a file while recording activity

Live on Google Play for Android.

Probably live on Monday for iOS. A half hour after previewing a file while recording RS will constantly keep going to the Files page. Close* and reopen RS to fix.
* double tap home then swipe RS up

For the last day or two there was a bug posting from RS to HAZ. Just found out and fixed.

Cool new feature coming in a week or two thx to a member suggestion.
Probably not a mega hit like "I wish I had a Wish List" but it's looking pretty snazzy.

It took me awhile to come around to it, but RS has almost become and indispensable asset to me now. The fact that I can sit in the back of my car with barely 3G draw a map in route manager on my phone and then upload it to route scout for a hike the next day with full topo and trails in the middle of Montana is pretty impressive to me, just wanted to share!

@joebartels
Joe, I'm taking another looong look at RS, and I have a question.

One of my pet peeves about my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx is, when I follow a route, I must cross/touch/hit every single point, regardless of whether I'm on the track or not! If I miss a point, the pointer keeps pointing at it, insisting I go back and cross it. YUCK!

My car GPS doesn't do that. If I want to pull off the highway and get a cherry-dipped ice cream cone(!), it doesn't force me to backtrack up the exit ramp, and get back on the highway, right where I left off.

Does RS have the intelligence to know that I'm "on-track", and doesn't care if I miss a point or two?

Thanks for your time,
Gary

@garyc57
Sounds similar to the "Pin To" feature in RS
"Pin To"* is available under the Map menu IF a route has been imported AND set to Follow.
There is nothing to tap or confirm in RS, it is audio based.
- hiking a decent trail: distance & interval alerts can be conservative
- off trail in a catclaw/locust field at 10 degrees: I'd go with 30 second intervals & pray for summer
pin-to-RS.jpg
* It is track based, available to set for 1 track.
For reference a "route" is a collection of tracks & waypoints.
Most probably only follow single track routes.
Regardless, the Map menu has a list of tracks.
Tap a track ( under map menu ) for Pin To, Reverse & Center.
