Hi All,

I just used the app in Florida on a Galaxy Note5 running 6.0.1 and it worked like a dream. I added a track from my computer before hitting the trail, pulled it down from the cloud and off I went. Thanks Joe and everyone else involved for all of the hard work!

iTunes/iOS/Apple/CashMoneyBillionaires might release in the next day or two.
They have some new app policies I sort of got a kick out of so I'm sharing...
- If your app looks like it was cobbled together in a few days, or you're trying to get your first practice app into the store to impress your friends, please brace yourself for rejection. We have lots of serious developers who don't want their quality apps to be surrounded by amateur hour.

- We will reject apps for any content or behavior that we believe is over the line. What line, you ask? Well, as a Supreme Court Justice once said, "I'll know it when I see it". And we think that you will also know it when you cross it.

- If you attempt to cheat the system (for example, by trying to trick the review process, steal user data, copy another developer's work, or manipulate ratings) your apps will be removed from the store and you will be expelled from the Developer Program.

The updates look great! Unfortunately, I had a couple tracks saved on my app that I had not yet uploaded to traildex. It looks like they got deleted with the updates.

Yes, I did have to login again, which didn't surprise me because the app had finished updating. Now that I think about it, it's not surprising that the routes got deleted with the app update though! I should've uploaded them prior ;)

Yeah if you had to login then it wiped out settings and routes. I'll have to research more, I do know low memory causes issues.

I'm not sure if this is a new development, but Route Scout seems to use a lot of power. I fired up the new version for less than a minute yesterday, with the GPS and location services turned off, just to see if my files were still there, after which I exited. At the end of the day, Route Scout was tied for first place with the display for power usage, and it was listed as having used the radio for nearly four hours. I stopped the process before charging again, and I'll experiment with it for the next few days.

Yesterday I did an 8 mile hike. Using airplane mode my cell power was at 13% when I finished. I was really surprised at how fast my battery drained

There haven't been any changes to location services ( GPS ) on Android in over a month. GPS is on when you see the location pin marker in header ( Android ), it's a tilted arrow on iOS.

When GPS is on for Route Scout it is draining the battery. Recording it is always on. Previewing a route it is on when the screen is on, it should shut off when exiting preview or turning off the screen. For me it shuts off immediately on Android, takes about 12 seconds on an iPhone5.

Last Saturday I did about 23 miles. Used about 60% battery in airplane mode on a year old battery. Based responses and observations in the past week it sounds like it's only working correct for myself. Which is odd as nothing has really changed, recording wise.

@big_load
Was your battery lower than normal at the end of the day?

Where are you getting this stat? When I look under battery RS isn't in my list as I haven't used it enough today. I tried tapping others but am not seeing where it breaks down anything called radio usage.

My GPS had never been turned on, but my battery was draining faster than usual. When I looked at "battery" on settings, Route Scout and Screen were each far ahead of anything else. (I checked the GPS again to make sure it was off.) Since I stopped Route Scout before recharging, my battery is draining more slowly and of course Route Scout isn't . It may have been draining faster than this for quite some time without my noticing.

I might run some experiments when nothing else is going on to see whether this is repeatable and measurable.

Clunky or doesn't have the feature you want?

Begin Activity and Stop, how could it be less clunky?

Honestly, I don't remember exactly what I didn't like. It was a while ago now, and I was trying a few different apps. Gaia was just so easy to use, that I didn't mind (and still don't) paying for it.

I've never used Gaia, so I don't know how it works, but I do use another mapping app that allows me some more options on preloading maps versus RS.

I can download offline maps for anywhere, even if I don't have a planned track in that area loaded. Sometimes that's a nice feature when headed out for several days into a large forest or wilderness area where there are many trail options that you might deviate from the original plan due to weather, other conditions, or just deciding to do something you didn't plan ahead of time.

Yes, this is exactly what I do with Gaia. With a good-sized memory card (or a phone wiht a lot of built-in memory), I could download topo quads for an entire state or more for offline access. In fact, I probably have a good chunk of Arizona downloaded right now because I usually don't bother erasing old maps after using them.

FWIW, I just checked, and downloading all of Arizona at the 2nd highest resolution (usually more than adequate for typical hiking) would be around 11 GB. I have no idea if this sort of thing is an option for Route Scout or not, but it's a pretty great feature of Gaia.

(PS I looked at Route Scout in the google play store, and it looks like it's designed for people who use their phone continually to navigate or record tracks. Our phones are usually packed away while hiking and only get taken out when we want to make sure we're on trail, navigate a confusing intersection, etc. For that purpose, all I usually need is a topo map with a dot for my current location. Maybe this is why I didn't take to Route Scout.)

- 12,000 points of data
- 25 tracks
