You can use Emergency SOS via satellite for free as of right now, and Apple has said it will be available at no cost to all iPhone 14 owners for a period of two years. There is no word as of yet on what it will cost when that two-year period expires.

Re: Testing Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite Feature!
He may need the SOS feature after a snack, based on the last six seconds of the video. There is a 19-21 month-old $10 jar of GIF peanut butter in the background that appears full.
...commercial peanut butter may last 6–24 months unopened, or 2–3 months once opened (believe I've survived 3-5 years either way... lol)

Apple Emergency SOS Feature Update:
False crash reports from skier iPhones flood Colorado ski town emergency dispatch centers
911 calls are never ignored, but sorting out which alerts from Apple iPhone 14s and watches are real is “a tremendous drain” on resort town resources.

That's a nice step forward. I read elsewhere about this and the technical approach looks plausible. I look forward to having it more widely available.Pivo wrote: ↑Jan 06 2023 6:13 am Qualcomm introduces new Snapdragon Satellite for 2-way emergency messaging

Re: Testing Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite Feature!
A Closer Look at Garmin & Qualcomm’s Satellite Chipset Partnership.
Garmin’s Outdoor division (overseeing Fenix/Epix/Instinct/inReach/handhelds/etc), talking about a barely mentioned new partnership designed to go head-to-head with Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite search that was launched back in November (and December in Europe).
“Garmin welcomes the opportunity to expand our proven satellite emergency response services to millions of new smartphone users globally,” said Brad Trenkle, vice president of Garmin’s outdoor segment. “Garmin Response supports thousands of SOS incidents each year and has likely saved many lives in the process, and we are looking forward to collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies and Iridium to help people connect to emergency services no matter where life takes them.”
