USFS is going Electric

Post by SuperstitionGuy »

The United States Forest Service (USFS) has begun transitioning its fleet of more than 17,000 vehicles from internal combustion to electric power.

No, not quite. In fact, I call BS on a eco freak puff piece that is really intended to get normal people to buy the electric F-150, and not really about what the USFS does.
“The Forest Service is embarking on an exciting study of the first-ever use of electric vehicles in a natural resources field setting,” Jason Kirchner, a spokesperson for the agency tells Outside. “The research will determine the feasibility of electric vehicles in field-work settings, helping the agency determine the right tool for the job when it comes to electric fleet vehicles.”
More like they are going to study if a hair brained idea can actually be forced on the agency through executive actions. When you consider that the USFS has a lot of fire fighting trucks and other vehicles that are involved in situations a little more intense than you'll likely ever encounter on your trip to the trailhead, the USFS is not going to be doing a full transition any time soon.

Well, maybe they do, and a few towns burn down and people die, and then the lawsuits come it. Not going to look good when a town burns down, or another Hot Shot Crew is burned alive because their E-Vehicle couldn't move because the battery was dead. But, hey, I want to live in reality, and Executive Order 14057 is ideologically driven.

From the EO:
It is therefore the policy of my Administration for the Federal Government to lead by example in order to achieve a carbon pollution-free electricity sector by 2035 and net-zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050.
Yeah? Where the hell do you think that electricity will come from? These orders are not based in reality.

If these people were serious about the things they claimed, we would be building a Nuclear based Hydrogen fuel cell economy. We would also be doing a lot of research into fusion so we could hopefully transition away from fission.
Still hiking.
