I was expecting a few bucks, but was pleasantly surprised to see I had built up a $100 dividend! DADDY GOT NEW BOOTS! $125, deduct the 20% for one single item...made them $100, applied my dividend and viola...FREE BOOTS!

Latest email ad from REI shows the Osprey Atmos "Antigravity" pack. Thinking that maybe REI might finally be getting some ultralight gear into the store I took a look. While I'm sure it's a well-made pack, it's over 4 pounds! The medium women's version is a whopping 4.7 pounds! I don't care how well it might fit, that's too darned heavy.
I buy small stuff from REI, for the most part, and some kayaking stuff.

Normally take the cash option, but just ordered my winter backcountry ride for next season. It will probably replace the resort board as well when my wife repurposes it into cabin furniture. Put all my bills on that visa. Kind of embarrassed how big the dividend was this year.

My birthday falls about the same time as dividend, and two of my kids have obliged me by giving me gift cards, same as last year. I plan to order NRS Carolina Paddling Pants for kayaking in cold weather. They are expensive, and I will also need the jacket to go with them, eventually.
However I do think that "paddling pants" is a funny name for a product.

I could have used some of those when I was a kid.

Nah, all I bought at REI last year was my wife's Christmas present - a pair of Smartwool socks. She loves them. They keep her feet warm.

Backcountry just put my dividend purchase on a huge sale. I spoke to Rei as my purchase still hasn't made it to the store for pick up. According to them, I just cancel with Rei and since I ordered with dividend evidently, I get an immediate check issued (I assume mailed) for the refund of the dividend instead of waiting to get a check in July which is when the first dividend checks come out if you choose the cash option.

We'll see if it works the way customer service says, but it just got me an extra couple hundred bucks off since the sale price at backcountry was cheaper than the rei sale with my dividend applied.

Had to go in to return my purchase I never took possession of and they gave my dividend to me in cash. Sweet!

Since I'm pretty happy with current gear, didn't need to upgrade anything this year. So... I splurged with some new things. Have a dehydrator on the way - will see how that works! And since I had enough credit, broke down and got a GPS unit. Still not sure if that will be a good thing or not, but there are times when I wish I had a second opinion besides my thoughts/map/compass! And still had enough for a nice, new, super light food bag. Mine old one needed 2 duct tape repairs to get it through the last trip!

While not related to the dividend per se, the REI 20% off member coupons that were to expire last night at midnight have been extended one day due to the REI website crashing, and their 800 order number also going "all-circuits busy" for most of last night.
So if you didn't use your coupons and there's something you were interested in buying, you now have until midnight tonight (officially 11:59 PDT 4/14/2015)

Along with being a member, also go for the "REI- US Bank MasterCard" for your REI purchases and for some of your other purchases.
It does make a difference for me: Total Dividend = $137.xx this year
