"Michoacan", in the same complex as the Circle K, in central Mammoth. Me & the wife stopped there last weekend. I had a carne asada chimichanga, and my wife had a torta. Both very yummy. Red salsa was very spicy, but I actually preferred the green "salsa". (Quotes because it was more like a dip than a salsa, and had avocodo in it.) Check it out if you are in that area ...

Agree. Been eating occasionally at that place for many years, even back when it was called Alicia's. Nice friendly family kind of place. When they first opened they were serving blazing hot sauce; much tamer now.

I wanted to put in an updated plug for Libby's El Rey Cafe in Globe..north side of Hwy 60 igallery/image_page.php?id=4822 (Real Mexican Food is their claim to fame with complementary tortilla chips- buttered with or without and good Salsa..Mild and Hot)

Three of us had combo Mex Plates + drinks and we were out the door for less than $35.00 total.. http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=290394 :y:

This small, but popular local Globe family Mexican Restaurant has received a few low ratings in the past, but our 10/11/12 Mexican Dinner experience which included a very small but clean eating facility, moderate prices, average service, and clean bathrooms gets a :D rating from myself, bart01-Joel, and his Dad (a world traveler). My only :o recommendation is do not sit on the east side of this small restaurant as it is located so close to west traveling traffic on Hwy 60, IF a vehicle veers off Hwy 60 traveling west at the wrong spot, you could end up :stretch: and not because of the Mexican Food ;)

This is cool! I'm a local, and I didn't trust them. Big reason - it's been opened and closed 3 or 4 different times in the last 2 years under different names, but I was never sure if it was always the same family or not. The last time I was in there, it took us 25 minutes to get a to-go breakfast, and they didn't know how to use the cash register. Ended up having to go next door to the Circle K, getting exact change to pay for our breakfast so we could go on. Several people behind us just walked out.

The biggest issue with small places like this is consistency, and staying open. I hope they can.

This is the place that Tracy and I ate at on our way back from Chaco Canyon in 2011. I wasn't that impressed with the place~~~the parking lot was packed so I thought "must be good food". Maybe it was an off day but the service was very slow and the food was only so-so BUT there was a lot of food. I'd try it again though because everyone deserves a second chance.

Trish, that's why I stick with La Casita. They've been there forever, the menu has changed very little, and the food is really good. You can also get a beer there, where the other places you usually can't. I like a beer with my Mexican food!

If you are ever in Wickenburg, El Ranchero, just west of the railroad underpass on Hwy 60, got raves from everybody in our group yesterday ...

I ate there once. I don't remember having a strong opinion about it, so it must have been OK. I remember being extremely hungry when I went in, and not hungry at all when I came out.

The El Rey is closed, fence around it....
We first got a glimmer on FB, then some customers came in from Globe and reported ..yes it is true.
You would have thought they would have called so we could get one more basket of butter slathered chips and the sauce and salsa.

@The Eagle
Really the food wasn't killer, but chips and sauces were awesome.

And the service was bottom notch... but those chips....

Somebody else that owns two Mexican restaurants, one in Scottsdale and one in Chandler, with the initials JJIII, should take note.
It would make a nice addition.... :D

I was told they were behind on their payments so the property owner put up the fence and closed them down. I never got a chance to try out the chips!!

Never went to El Rey, but lately I've been thinking about making the drive to Globe just for lunch at Chalo's.

I hope they exhausted the possibilities before taking that step. That place could sit vacant for a while.
